## Senior Software Engineer, Forecasting & Real-Time Optimization ### About the team Marketplace teams are at the heart of Lyft’s products and decision-making. The Forecasting and Real-Time Optimization Platform (FORTOP) team (Rideshare Experience & Marketplace) provides reliable, real-time supply/demand signals and forecasts that power critical automated marketplace decisions—supporting products like **Dynamic Pricing**, **Real-Time Supply Management**, **Fulfillment**, and more. ### What you’ll do - **Lead projects end to end:** Drive multi-engineer efforts from proposal and technical design through launch; break work into milestones, align dependencies, and own estimates. - **Architect ML systems:** Design and evolve streaming feature pipelines, training/inference workflows, and signal serving with focus on **latency, correctness, scalability, and cost**. Reduce complexity by consolidating or sunsetting components. - **Partner with science to ship:** Productionize ML models; build rollout tooling (**shadow, canary, rollback**) plus backtesting and experimentation infrastructure. - **Own signal contracts:** Define and maintain interfaces, data contracts, and **SLAs** between forecasting signals and downstream consumers. - **Operate what you build:** Monitor system health (**latency, freshness, error rates**) and signal quality (**accuracy, bias, drift**); participate in on-call, lead post-incident investigations, and drive action items to completion. - **Maintain code quality:** Write well-tested, maintainable code; provide high-impact code reviews and coach teammates. - **Collaborate across functions:** Work with Product, Science, and partner engineering to shape the roadmap and trade off **accuracy vs. latency vs. complexity**. - **Grow the team:** Mentor engineers, participate in hiring/onboarding, and share knowledge via design docs, runbooks, and tech talks. ### Experience / Qualifications - **5+ years** of software engineering experience building and operating backend or data systems in production - **BS/MS** (or equivalent) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field - Experience designing and leading **large-scale distributed systems**, owning reliability via monitoring, on-call, and incident response - Strong distributed systems fundamentals (fault tolerance, delivery semantics, consistency tradeoffs) - Track record leading ambiguous, multi-engineer projects and mentoring others - Clear written communication (e.g., design docs aligning stakeholders) - **Preferred:** Production ML model/infrastructure experience (feature engineering/pipelines, training & inference, model serving, ML platforms) - **Preferred:** Stream or large-scale batch processing (Flink/Beam/Spark) and distributed messaging (Kafka/Kinesis) - **Preferred:** Time series forecasting systems; familiarity with backtesting and forecast evaluation (error metrics, bias, calibration) - **Preferred:** Online experimentation or real-time decision systems (pricing, dispatch, marketplace balancing) - **Preferred:** Comfort using AI-assisted development tools to move faster without compromising quality ### Benefits (highlights) - Medical, dental, and vision insurance options + additional programs - Mental health benefits - Family building benefits - Child care and pet benefits - **401(k)** plan with company match - 12 observed holidays + discretionary PTO (salaried) or 15 days PTO (hourly) - **18 weeks paid parental leave** (biological, adoptive, and f
