## Toast — Senior Manager, Software Engineering (Android) — POS Payments Experience Toast builds the restaurant platform that helps restaurants adapt, take control, and get back to what they do best. The Toast POS app is the central pillar of Toast’s restaurant products, and Android is the foundation of the POS stack. ### About the Team The **POS Payments Experience** team powers critical restaurant workflows—**checking out and taking payments**—across a coordinated network of tablets and peripherals used **10–12 hours a day**. The POS must be fast and resilient, even when the network has problems. ### Responsibilities - Drive delivery of business outcomes for **POS payments**, including planning, schedule, and execution - Lead cross-team and cross-organization efforts, especially across **POS and Fintech**, with predictable results and strong collaboration - Partner with **PM and UX** to fill the team backlog with actionable, valuable work - Ensure end-to-end quality and delivery of software, including ownership of monitoring and production issues - Set technical direction and continuously improve **architecture, codebase, and engineering practices** - Hire and develop new team members - Coach individuals in professional and technical development - Champion the use of **AI tools and practices** to accelerate development and build an **AI-first** engineering organization ### Requirements - Experience leading and mentoring successful teams to drive predictable business results - Experience delivering **mobile products** (Android preferred) to a large customer base; comfortable working in large mobile codebases - Strong technical background in **Java, Kotlin, and Android** to guide team decisions and plans - Experience managing a mix of core contributions and cross-team engagements - Ability to communicate technical designs and contribute to the design process - Willingness to get hands-on and go deep to help the team reach goals; encourages high agency and creative exploration - Collaborative, solution-oriented approach with business and product leaders - Desire to build diverse teams that win together and prioritize customer success ### AI at Toast (Hiring Process Note) Toast uses AI tools to support recruiters and interviewers (e.g., note-taking, summarization, and interview documentation). **All hiring decisions are made by people.** Candidates are asked to complete interviews and assessments **without real-time AI tools** (unless told otherwise in advance). ### Apply **Apply today!** Toast is committed to an accessible and inclusive hiring process and provides reasonable accommodations upon request. *#LI-REMOTE*
