Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Backend Leaning)
Fairmarkit · United States
About this role
## Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Backend Leaning) ### About Fairmarkit Fairmarkit is the #1 autonomous sourcing platform revolutionizing how organizations buy and sell. We equip procurement teams with automation, AI, and GenAI to source more competitively at scale—helping reduce cycle times, drive out costs, meet ESG/Diversity targets, and improve the experience for internal partners and suppliers. ### The Role We’re hiring a senior engineer to help build the products customers run their sourcing on—events, supplier bids, awards, and the integrations that connect Fairmarkit to the ERPs and procurement suites teams already use. This is full-stack work that **leans back end**. Most of your time goes into domain models, APIs, event-driven services, and data that has to be right. Front-end engineers and dedicated designers work with you on the UI, so you’ll need to be comfortable shipping screens to production, but you don’t have to be a front-end specialist. You won’t be pinned to one feature—priorities shift, and you’ll move to where the work matters most (e.g., sourcing workflows one quarter, ERP integration the next). If you like learning a new domain quickly and improving it, you’ll do well here. ### What You’ll Do - Design and build features end to end—from domain model and API to the screen—with product managers, designers, front-end engineers, and QA - Own the hard parts of the back end: data models, service boundaries, event flows, and integrations moving purchase data between Fairmarkit and customer systems - Build with AI coding agents daily, and hold what they produce to the same standard as hand-written code - Review code carefully: catch design problems early, keep types honest, and design out whole classes of bugs - Move across product areas as the roadmap shifts; ramp up fast and document what you learn - Raise the bar: mentor engineers new to an area and help shape how we build software with AI ### What You’ll Bring - Proven track record shipping production software across the stack, with real depth on the back end - Strong system design fundamentals, clear interfaces, type safety, and well-chosen tests - Professional experience with at least one statically typed language (Java, C#, Go, Kotlin, Scala, or Rust), plus TypeScript and Python - Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools—and the discipline to review, correct, and own what they produce - Comfort entering unfamiliar domains, asking good questions, and finding the real constraint quickly - A habit of explaining decisions in writing (design docs, clear PR descriptions, decision records) to support an asynchronous culture ### Bonus Points - Experience with procurement, ERP, or B2B commerce systems (Coupa, SAP Ariba, Oracle, NetSuite) - Event-driven systems and data pipelines (Kafka, change data capture, Postgres at scale) - Startup or growth-stage experience where you owned outcomes (not just tickets) - Work that shows how you build (open source, side projects, or write-ups on how AI changed your workflow) ### Location / Compensation - Remote work opportunities may be limited to designated states. - Compensation range: **$154,000 – $225,000 (including bonus) + equity, and benefits** (U.S. pay transparency). Final offer depends on experience, skills, and location. ### Additional Notes Fairmarkit is headquartered in Boston and backed by a $35.6M Series C co-led by OMERS, Highland, Notable Capital, Insight Partners, and ServiceNow. Fairmarkit is an equal opportunity
