About this role
**Enterprise Technical Lead (Clearance Required)** **About the role** Vannevar builds AI systems for high-impact Department of War missions. As an Enterprise Technical Lead, you’ll own technical direction and engineering delivery across a portfolio of national security accounts ($10M–$50M contract value), guiding work from discovery through testing, scaling, and sustained operations. You’ll use Vannevar’s **Agent Control Plane** to prototype and test AI capabilities in areas such as digital sensing, logistics, supply chain security, and defense health—then help determine what’s ready to scale or transition to dedicated product teams. **What you’ll do** **Technical leadership & delivery** - Set technical strategy across your portfolio, translating mission priorities into architectures, plans, and deployed capabilities. - Decide when to configure existing platform tools, build reusable extensions, or develop mission-specific software. - Manage engineering capacity and priorities across accounts to ensure commitments are deliverable. **Customer & opportunity work** - Partner with customers and end users to understand mission needs and constraints. - Understand customer network topology, enterprise architecture, and mission applications to extend existing capabilities (not create parallel silos). - Shape opportunities with customer success, BD, legal, and contracting; contribute technical content to ROMs and SOWs. - Build and validate prototypes with customers and product teams; guide what’s ready for production and scale. **Platform contribution** - Feed recurring engineering challenges and reusable patterns into quarterly Platform/Product planning. - Enable field-driven engineering improvements to ship faster into the platform. **Execution & governance** - Produce architecture artifacts (e.g., system context, component/interface, data-flow, deployment diagrams; UML/SysML where useful) and track work in tools like Jira and Notion. - Guide teams through security, compliance, and authorization requirements to support timely ATO and deployment. **People** - Mentor engineers and technical leads; as the role grows, take on performance feedback, reviews, and development planning. **Travel** - Up to **20%** for customer discovery and delivery support. **Locations** - Washington, DC - San Diego, CA - Norfolk, VA **What you’ll bring** - **5+ years** hands-on full-stack engineering; able to contribute to architecture, code, integrations, and deployment. - Experience leading technical delivery on **$5M+** enterprise accounts. - Track record taking software from pilot/R&D into enterprise use (including scaling and ongoing support). - Experience in government or similarly regulated environments; familiarity with **DoD RMF** and **NIST SP 800-53**. - Experience working with government IT/program offices on requirements, architecture, and integrations. - Experience integrating with government systems (data platforms, IAM, SIEMs, cross-domain solutions). - Strong production software experience in **Python** and/or **TypeScript/Node.js** (backend services, APIs, modern web apps using React or similar). - Experience deploying/operating containerized apps with **Docker** and **Kubernetes** in **AWS** (or comparable), plus working knowledge of Postgres, Elasticsearch, S3, Redis, and related systems. - Strong cross-functional communication across technical, customer, product, and business stakeholders. - **Active U.S. Top Secret clearance with SCI el
