Sr. Staff Software Engineer, Agentic Applications
Databricks · Mountain View, California
About this role
**Senior Staff Software Engineer, Agentic Applications** **Enterprise Platform Group — Commercialization (Quote-to-Cash)** Mountain View, CA --- ## What you’ll do As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Agentic Applications team, you’ll be the hands-on technical lead for how Databricks quotes, orders, bills, and recognizes revenue. You’ll build bespoke, first-party, agents-first applications on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform—owning the technical architecture end to end (quote to cash). You’ll design agents that work reliably in revenue-critical workflows, set engineering standards, and ensure agent-assisted decisions are observable, auditable, and trusted by Finance, Deal Desk, and Sales. This is a hands-on technical leadership role (not people management): you’ll write code, review designs, and serve as the senior technical voice in a domain that impacts every dollar Databricks books. --- ## The impact you’ll have - **Own the agentic architecture for Quote-to-Cash**: Lead target architecture across CPQ, deal management, ordering, subscriptions, investments, billing, and revenue recognition. Drive the move from vendor-configured workflows to first-party, AI-native applications built on **Databricks Apps, Lakebase, Unity Catalog, and Mosaic AI**. - **Build production agents that sellers and Deal Desk trust**: Ship LLM-powered agents for deal guidance, quote generation/summarization, multi-option proposals, approval insights, and pricing/discount recommendations. - **Make agent reliability a core system property**: Own eval/quality systems for the domain—quality criteria per workflow, offline eval suites, LLM-as-judge + human benchmarks, behavioral regression testing in CI/CD, online tracing, and feedback loops. - **Design human-in-the-loop controls for revenue-critical decisions**: Separate what agents propose vs. what gets committed; implement diff-based review, approval routing, audit logging, and policy guardrails (especially for pricing, discounting, contract terms, and order creation). - **Treat systems of record as agent tools**: Architect tool-calling and MCP-style interfaces for governed runtime access to pricing, product catalog, order, contract, subscription, and billing data—following single-source-of-truth principles. - **Protect financial integrity at scale**: Ensure agent-assisted quoting/ordering produces accurate, compliance-grade outputs downstream (order validation, billing, invoicing, revenue recognition). - **Lead the migration path**: Bridge today’s production quoting platform to the target agentic architecture—sequence migration to avoid disruption; decide what to retire, rebuild, or wrap. - **Raise the engineering bar**: Lead architecture reviews, establish agent design patterns (orchestration, memory, retrieval, tool use, multi-agent coordination), and mentor senior/mid-level engineers. - **Earn cross-functional credibility**: Partner with Finance, Deal Desk, Sales Ops, Legal, and Platform engineering to translate commercial processes into technical roadmaps and measurable outcomes. --- ## What we look for - **12+ years** of software engineering experience with a track record of technical leadership and ownership of large-scale production systems. - **3+ years** building and running **LLM-powered/agentic applications in production** (agents, RAG pipelines, tool use, multi-agent orchestration such as LangGraph/OpenAI Agents SDK/DSPy or equivalent, plus evaluation frameworks). - Strong **backe
