About this role
## Member of Technical Staff (Infrastructure) ### About the role Footprint is an agentic platform that learns your compliance program and runs it end to end—helping compliance teams at banks and fintechs reduce manual review queues and improve investigation quality. This role owns the infrastructure that powers Percy (the agent system) and makes agent compute, observability, CI/CD, and task scheduling reliable, fast, and safe—so the backend team can focus on product. You’ll report directly to **Head of Engineering — Elliott Forde**. --- ### What you’ll own - **Agent compute**: Provision, deploy, isolate, and scale sandboxed environments where agents and sub-agents execute code against regulated customer data. - **Observability (Rust + AI agents)**: Define and implement reliability, latency, and cost measurements—especially what a single agent run costs. Make production legible enough for any engineer to debug slow investigations end-to-end. - **CI/CD + per-PR ephemeral environments**: Own the full commit-to-production path, including merge queue, code review tooling, and a testing strategy engineers can trust. - **Build vs. buy**: Make defensible decisions for task scheduling and other infrastructure components as the system scales. - **Developer experience as a product**: Improve tooling, feedback loops, and “paved paths” that help engineers ship faster. - **Product work when it’s the fastest path**: Write product code directly when needed. --- ### Tech stack (examples) - **Rust, Postgres, Aurora** - **AWS (ECS/Fargate, CloudFront)** - **Pulumi, Terraform** - **Datadog, OpenTelemetry** - **GitHub Actions** --- ### Must-haves - **4+ years** operating production infrastructure on a major cloud - Experience **provisioning, deploying, and debugging** systems under load - **Infrastructure-as-code** fluency with a track record of declarative infrastructure management - Strong **observability instincts** (metrics, traces, logs, alerting) - Experience owning **CI/CD pipelines** and org-wide build/deploy systems - Depth in **relational databases**, especially **Postgres** (performance, scaling, safe schema/operational changes) - **Bias toward leverage**: tooling that makes the whole team faster - Comfort balancing multiple competing priorities - Comfort at an early-stage company taking ownership of an area nobody has owned full-time yet --- ### Nice-to-haves - Experience deploying/sandboxing **AI-agent/LLM workloads** (e.g., Modal or similar serverless compute) - Security-minded infrastructure experience: **secrets management**, **network isolation**, **least-privilege IAM** - Experience with **multi-tenant systems** handling regulated data with strong tenant isolation --- ### Success looks like - **90 days**: Own a slice of infrastructure and fix a bottleneck the team feels (faster agent deploys, trusted ephemeral environments, or improved observability for end-to-end tracing). - **1 year**: Lead infrastructure at Footprint—agent compute is fast/isolated/observable, reliability/latency/cost-per-run metrics exist, CI/CD is trusted, and you’ve made a defensible build-vs-buy call on task scheduling so backend engineers ship faster. --- ### Why join Footprint - **Massive impact, fast**: Work that shapes company direction. - **Real ownership**: Direct responsibility for strategic initiatives from day one. - **Growth opportunity**: Promotion timelines depend on performance. - **Winning team & culture**: Fast-moving, no-BS, and fun. -
