About this role
## Member of Technical Staff (Backend) ### About Footprint Footprint is an agentic platform that learns your compliance program and runs it end to end. Compliance teams at banks and fintechs are overwhelmed by financial crimes investigations—Percy, our agentic system, helps clear false positives, escalate real risk, write case narratives, and document every decision for audit. Percy also builds **organizational memory** with provenance, so patterns discovered by one analyst can surface automatically later across **KYC, EDD, sanctions, and monitoring**. Backed by **QED, Index, and Box Group** and trusted by **FDIC- and OCC-regulated banks** plus fintechs like **Bilt, Nuvei, and MoonPay**. We 5x’d revenue last year. The team is small, senior, and ships fast. --- ### The Role For four years, Footprint’s backend has answered one core question: **should this company onboard this user?** Clear cases were automated; ambiguous cases went to humans. Now, Percy targets that queue—an agent that can do more in review than a person can, and faster. You’ll span both: - the **identity verification platform** financial services run on today - the **agentic products** we’re building on top You’ll report directly to the **Head of Engineering (Elliott Forde)**. --- ### What You’ll Own - **API and service design**: Rust APIs and services powering verification, vaulting, and the checks Percy runs to investigate users for fraud. - These are customer-facing surfaces—design decisions are hard to take back. - Own an entire area end-to-end: **data model, architectural calls, deployment**, and feature delivery from ideation through production. - **Agent-shaped work**: Percy’s investigation services are newer and still evolving. - Help define what excellence looks like. --- ### Tech Stack **Rust, Python, Postgres, Pulumi, AWS** --- ### Must-Have - **4+ years** designing, building, and operating backend systems under real load (including debugging when things broke) - Shipped and operated an **API** other teams (or external engineers) build against, including handling compatibility when it changed - Strong **privacy, security, and trust** instincts from the first design sketch - Clear reasoning about tradeoffs and a habit of chasing failure modes others call unlikely - Owned a production service, including being the person paged for it - Ability to **concede your own design** to a better one and ship --- ### Nice-to-Have - Production **Rust** (or deep systems experience) and a real desire to learn Rust - Background in real-world **cryptography** or **systems security** (identity vaulting for banks/fintechs) - Experience designing **APIs/SDKs** used by external developers - Familiarity with **KYC** and identity verification --- ### Success Timeline **90 Days** - Own a product area and ship to APIs customers integrate (e.g., agent memory, self-improving agents, or new verification capabilities) **1 Year** - Architect and deliver a major platform capability - Actively shape what we build and how we build it - Raise team engineering standards through your influence --- ### Why Join Footprint - **Massive impact, fast**: shape company direction - **Direct ownership** from day one - **Real growth opportunity**: promotion timelines depend on performance - **Winning team and culture**: fast-moving, no-BS, and fun --- ### Benefits - 💰 Generous compensation and equity packages - 🍽 Free lunch and dinner (after 7pm) - 💪 Monthly wellness stipend -
