About this role
## Engineering Manager — Flux **Location:** San Francisco, CA (In-Office) **Level:** Senior ### About Flux Flux is building the world’s first **AI hardware engineer**—helping anyone go from an idea to a **manufacturable board** using only a natural language prompt. Founded in 2019, Flux is backed by top investors and recently closed **$37M** in funding (Feb 2026) to accelerate the mission. ### What you’ll do - **Own engineering execution**: Drive delivery across product engineering teams; set technical direction; unblock teams; uphold quality, reliability, and velocity. - **Be the technical standard-bearer**: Define what “good engineering” looks like; establish architectural principles; review critical designs; push back on shortcuts that create long-term risk. - **Build and scale the engineering function**: Start hands-on with existing reports; hire, develop, and retain exceptional engineers; build processes, culture, and tooling to scale without losing execution quality. - **Drive cross-functional alignment**: Serve as the engineering voice across product, design, and go-to-market; translate business needs into technical direction. - **Develop AI-native engineering practices**: Lead integration of AI-assisted development into daily workflows (coding, testing, observability) and set standards for building responsibly and at speed. - **Amplify team signal**: Build feedback loops for quality, reliability, and team health; improve engineering visibility across the org. ### What you’ll bring - **Full-stack technical depth** (8+ years hands-on): - **Frontend:** React, TypeScript, component architecture, performance, design systems - **Backend:** Node.js, Python, API design, service reliability, data pipelines - **Infrastructure:** GCP/AWS, containers, CI/CD, observability - **AI/ML integration:** LLM-integrated products, agentic workflows, evaluation frameworks, production AI systems - **Engineering leadership at multiple altitudes**: Write specs and architectural proposals; lead deep technical reviews; hire/mentor/scale while staying close to the work. - **Execution under pressure**: Ship at scale with real constraints; know when to move fast vs. hold the line. - **First-principles thinking**: Root-cause production issues; build tools when needed; treat ambiguity as solvable. ### The bar we’re setting Flux is fast-moving and high-intensity. You’ll thrive if you bring technical excellence, can hold the line in tough debates while staying collaborative, and have shipped where **reliability and quality are non-negotiable**. ### Requirements - **Engineering Leadership:** 4+ years managing engineering teams (hiring, mentorship, performance management, retention) - **Technical Depth:** 8+ years hands-on software engineering (prior to management) - **Execution & Delivery:** Experience shipping complex, customer-facing web apps at scale - **Product & Stakeholder Influence:** Ability to work with product/design and influence VP/C-suite stakeholders - **AI & Full-Stack Proficiency:** Experience building AI-integrated/agentic products in production - **Adaptive Mindset:** Thrives in ambiguity; strong early-stage “from zero to one” experience ### Nice to have - AI/ML experience with at least one shipped LLM/agentic example - Full-stack fluency across React/TypeScript, Node.js/Python, and GCP/AWS - Early-stage experience (Series A or earlier) - Evidence of sourcing/interviewing/closing 5+ senior engineering hires with retention outcome
