## Overview Cleary Gottlieb is seeking an **Applications Manager – Software Development** to lead the firm’s in-house enterprise software development team within Enterprise Applications. This is a **hands-on leadership** role responsible for the **design, delivery, security, and ongoing support** of custom applications across the web, **SharePoint Online**, and a mobile technology stack—plus integrations with commercial platforms and third-party products. ## Key Responsibilities ### Team Leadership - Lead, coach, and develop a team of software developers (workload, performance, career growth, feedback) - Set team objectives and manage priorities; provide regular updates to IT leadership and stakeholders ### Application Development & Delivery - Lead development and maintenance of custom applications across web, SharePoint Online, and mobile - Deliver **SharePoint Online** solutions using **SharePoint Framework (SPFx)** (web parts, extensions, and integrations with **Microsoft 365** and **Microsoft Graph**) - Support and extend the firm’s intranet/collaboration platforms (including solutions built on **InfoDash** where applicable) - Architect for scale, complexity, security, and fault tolerance; contribute to design and implementation - Provide **level-three application support** and timely, customer-focused troubleshooting ### Modern Engineering Practices - Establish and evolve the firm’s software development toolset (GitHub repositories, branching/PR workflows, automated build/test/deploy pipelines) - Guide safe adoption of **AI-assisted coding tools** (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude), including standards for code review, testing, IP, and protection of confidential firm/client information - Ensure clean, reusable, well-tested code aligned to standards and best practices - Apply Waterfall and Agile delivery approaches as appropriate ### Security & Governance - Ensure all custom software follows the firm’s documented and approved **Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC)** - Enforce source control, change management, peer review, and release approval controls; maintain environment separation (dev/test/UAT/prod) - Integrate logging, monitoring, vulnerability detection, code scanning, and security testing (e.g., **OWASP**) - Ensure annual secure-coding training and adherence to secure coding guidelines - Follow firm policies on data governance and information security ### Project & Stakeholder Management - Manage projects to completion (definition, scheduling, coordination with Project Management/Business Analysis) - Translate business requirements into technical requirements; manage stakeholder expectations clearly - Identify problem areas and collaborate on solutions - Coordinate with vendors/third parties and other IT teams on systems, upgrades, and enhancements ## Qualifications ### Required - **Bachelor’s degree** and **10+ years** of application development experience, including leading/mentoring developers - Strong hands-on experience with **SharePoint Online** and **SPFx** (TypeScript, modern JavaScript frameworks such as React) - Expert-level **.NET / C#** with deep knowledge of object-oriented design patterns - Experience with **Git and GitHub** (branching/merging, pull requests) and **CI/CD/DevOps pipelines** (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) - Working knowledge of secure software development (**SSDLC**, **OWASP**, code scanning, dependency management) - Experience using **AI-assisted coding tools** safely within a c
