**AI and ML at Flagship Pioneering** Flagship Pioneering is a scientific innovation engine that invents and builds companies that change the world. This model runs across our ecosystem—pairing advances in AI and machine learning with foundational science to move from idea to concept faster and build AI-native companies that were previously out of reach. **Who we are looking for** Computational scientists and engineers with broad interests and experience applying deep technical expertise to out-of-distribution scientific questions. Standalone implementation isn’t the goal—creatively spotting opportunities where extension, modification, and combination of cutting-edge computational approaches can unlock new capabilities to solve consequential problems. Strong candidates combine software engineering fundamentals with readiness to embrace agentic development tools/practices, and have experience implementing machine learning models and workflows across multiple model classes or scientific domains. **The Experience** You will collaborate with Flagship Origination Teams and fellow ML scientists/engineers to explore what is possible with big leaps beyond current AI capabilities. - Start by asking “What if” across a variety of ideas and building a “future backwards” case for what needs to be true for them to become reality. - Explore tradeoffs across multiple options, including what and how much data is needed and where it might come from. - Work toward implementation and evaluation plans that address real uncertainties—not just what is easy to measure. - With a project defined, implement, evaluate, and iterate. - Leverage Flagship’s scalable GPU compute resources, ecosystem data, and team expertise. - Implement the benchmarking capabilities needed to measure what matters and evaluate your designs. - Learn along the way and be ready to pivot on methods.
