About this role
## Compute Engineer, Deployment ### About Fluidstack Fluidstack exists to make humanity more free. We build and operate civilization-scale AI compute infrastructure—acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and delivering 10 to 100s of gigawatts of compute faster than anyone else. ### How We Operate - **Be a barrel**: full autonomy, own things end-to-end, take on scope without being asked. - **Insane urgency**: move fast and push continuously. - **Reason from first principles**: challenge assumptions; best idea wins. - **Love of the game**: long hours at high intensity to push the frontier. - **Build something that actually matters**: focus on real-world impact. ### The Infrastructure Team (examples of key problems) - Bring gigawatts of accelerators from first power-on to production. - Improve facility availability to ready-for-service across thousands of racks per site. - Make rack qualification faster than the fleet grows (firmware baselines, burn-in, validation). - Scale via tooling, not headcount—deploy megawatts while keeping the team near-flat. ### Role Scope You will: - **Own compute turn-up** from facility availability to ready-for-service (the stretch between network handoff and customer workloads). - **Qualify racks at scale**: establish firmware baselines, configure **BMC/BIOS**, run burn-in, and validate at node and cluster level across hundreds of racks per site on GPU and custom accelerator platforms. - **Drive qualification through** the base-management Kubernetes platform and provisioning stack (discovery, imaging, firmware updates, shared services), reducing qualification queues with tooling. - **Triage hardware failures** found in qualification: isolate to component, drive RMA/vendor escalation, and feed failure patterns back into qualification gates. - **Run turn-up remotely by default**, with on-site pulses (~1 week per data hall) as new halls reach facility availability, plus occasional overlapping-site weeks. - **Partner during turn-up windows** with network deployment, ICT, data center operations, and hardware teams; support incident response on newly live capacity. - **Travel 30–40%** as needed to data centers and labs. ### What We’re Looking For - Brought up **server/GPU fleets at scale** (hundreds of nodes+) through to production. - Deep Linux experience and **out-of-band management** (BMC, IPMI, Redfish) as daily tools. - Automated hardware workflows in **Python or Go** (turn manual work into software quickly). - Experience working physically in data halls (racking/cabling/swapping) and effective as remote hands or directing on-site work. - Methodical failure triage across **hardware, firmware, and software**, isolating faults to components. - Willingness to travel for turn-up windows. **Bonus** - Kubernetes-based bare-metal provisioning - Accelerator platform bringup (NVIDIA, AMD, or custom) - Burn-in and stress harness design - DCIM and inventory tooling ### Physical Requirements - Work in **non-climate-controlled environments** (construction areas, data halls, electrical/mechanical rooms, outdoor spaces). Conditions may be hot/cold, humid, loud, or dusty. - Lift/carry/push/pull up to **40 lbs**. - Sit/stand/walk/kneel/bend/crouch for long periods; full shifts on your feet. - Wear required **PPE** (hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, hearing protection) and follow site safety rules. - Climb stairs/ladders and move around equipment, cable trays, and uneven surfaces. ### Ap
