Production Engineer, IaaS
Fluidstack · San Francisco, CA
About this role
## About Fluidstack We exist to make humanity more free. We build and operate civilization-scale AI compute infrastructure—acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and running them with teams spanning hardware and software. ## How We Operate - **Be a barrel:** Full autonomy. Own things end to end. - **Insane urgency:** Move fast and push forward. - **Reason from first principles:** Challenge assumptions; the best idea wins. - **Love of the game:** High intensity, long hours to push the frontier. - **Build something that actually matters:** Work that improves the world. ## The Production Engineering Team Key problems the team is working on: - **Make tens of thousands of GPUs legible in real time** via an observability platform (site health → device/link signal). - **Build the control plane** with a stable, versioned API surface for unified machine management, state inspection, and distributed command execution. - **Keep fleet state aligned with reality** using a machine-readable source of truth across provisioning, operations, and customer-facing platforms. ## Role Scope (Production Engineer, IaaS) You will: - **Own the observability platform**: build and operate data pipelines, decoration/correlation, and healthcheck frameworks so the fleet is legible from **site → device → link**. - **Define and build the infrastructure API surface**: design contracts between production infrastructure and every tool that touches it. - **Build the production control plane**: unified machine management, state inspection, distributed command execution, and the **Kubernetes-based** infrastructure behind it. - **Own fleet state as the source of truth**: SLOs, site lifecycle state, and integrations with internal and customer-facing operations platforms. - **Land new hardware cleanly into the platform**: ZTP, DHCP, DNS, artifacts—ensuring new XPU generations and site integrations go through IaaS before production. ## What We’re Looking For - **5+ years** of applied industry experience. - Treat **toil as a bug**; automate anything that would require humans to do it twice. - Design **APIs that age well**; avoid leaky abstractions at scale. - Move toward **ambiguity**: build the map and explain it. - Learn quickly in unfamiliar domains. - **Pager-ready**: run incidents, write postmortems, fix systemic causes. - Fluent with **AI tooling** (LLM APIs, MCP servers, agentic frameworks) and comfortable using tools like Claude Code / Cursor daily. - Shipped **production services** other teams depend on at scale; comfortable working in any language with AI coding tools. **Bonus** - Distributed systems and data pipeline engineering. - Time-series observability stacks (Prometheus, Thanos, VictoriaMetrics). - API design/versioning at scale. - Workflow/orchestration engines (Temporal, Cadence). - Hardware telemetry (BMC/Redfish). - Go, Python, Postgres. ## Salary & Benefits - Competitive total compensation (**salary + equity**) - Retirement/pension plan (local norms) - Health, dental, and vision insurance - Generous PTO (local norms) - Pay equity and transparency commitment ## Equal Opportunity Fluidstack is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to protected characteristics. ## Apply https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/fluidstack/05c2e69c-42f9-4fcb-9cf0-a467aaf98f1c
