About this role
**Security Systems Engineer — Fluidstack** ## About Fluidstack Fluidstack exists to make humanity more free. We build and operate civilization-scale AI compute infrastructure—acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and running them with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. ## How We Operate - **Be a barrel:** Full autonomy. Own things end to end—no permission required to operate outside your core role. - **Insane urgency:** We move fast and push everything forward. - **Reason from first principles:** Challenge assumptions; no ego—best idea wins. - **Love of the game:** High intensity, long hours to push the frontier. - **Build something that actually matters:** Work that improves the world. ## The Security Team We’re securing the frontier of AI. The model weights training on our infrastructure are among the most valuable and targeted artifacts in technology—so a breach isn’t a leak, it’s the frontier walking out the door. Key problems we’re tackling: - **Secure the frontier:** Protect training infrastructure and the compute that holds it. - **Build the security program from scratch:** Own it end to end, from bare metal to the boardroom, as we scale across continents. - **Replace the old playbook:** Move beyond vendor-managed appliances and manual processes. - **Threat surface at gigawatt scale:** Physical and logical security for the most consequential technology in human history. ## Role Scope - **Design the security control plane end to end** and make architecture decisions the rest of the platform locks against. - **Build and operate the control plane at every site** (on-prem where resilience/bandwidth demand it; thin cloud management where it serves better). - **Own PKI and identity lifecycle:** certificate lifecycle, identity integration, and automated deprovisioning so access ends immediately. - **Build integrations, APIs, and monitoring** to detect site degradation before tickets are filed. - **Reject the appliance-per-site pattern** and replace it with infrastructure that is **versioned, reproducible, and recoverable**. - **Own backup, disaster recovery, and non-production environments** to prove changes before they reach live sites. ## What We’re Looking For A starting point—if you don’t match perfectly, still apply and tell us where you’d fit. - Designed and run **production virtualization** and **clustered storage**; can walk through a **tested** failover. - Served as **design authority** for architectures others built against; can name decisions you corrected and the cost to unwind. - Owned **database high availability and recovery**; restored from your own backups. - Run **PKI/certificate lifecycle** as automation (expiry is solved, not paged at 2am). - Integrated identity systems so provisioning/deprovisioning happens **without human intervention**. - Replaced vendor-managed/hand-built systems with **reproducible** approaches; can explain what the accepted approach gets wrong. - Writes code/scripts as a normal part of the job. **Bonus (nice to have):** - Video management & access control platforms (Genetec Security Center, Milestone, Lenel) - Enterprise virtualization & clustered storage (Hyper-V, VMware vSphere, Nutanix, failover clustering) - Database high availability (SQL Server Always On, clustering) - Cloud management planes (AWS) - Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell DSC) ## Equal Opportunity Fluidstack is an **Equal Employment Op
