Decision Engineer, Compute Operations
Fluidstack · New York, NY
About this role
**About Fluidstack** Fluidstack exists to make humanity more free. We’re building civilization-scale AI compute infrastructure—acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and operating them—so frontier AI can expand human freedom (not shrink it). We’re singularly focused on delivering **10 to 100s of GW** of compute faster than anyone else by rethinking every layer of the stack. --- **How We Operate** - **Be a barrel:** Full autonomy. Own things end-to-end; take on scope without being asked. - **Insane urgency:** Move fast and push the frontier forward. - **Reason from first principles:** Challenge assumptions; no ego—best idea wins. - **Love of the game:** High intensity, long hours, meaningful work. - **Build something that actually matters:** Spend your time on world-impacting infrastructure. --- **The Decision Team (Examples of Key Problems)** - **Automate gigawatts delivery:** Turn land-to-live compute processes into software—schedules, decisions, and tasks generated from a live knowledge graph. - **Forward-deploy beside experts:** Convert on-the-ground judgment into systems that reach every unit. - **Deliver every supercomputer faster than the last:** Learn once, prevent issues everywhere via shared feedback loops. --- **Role Scope — Decision Engineer, Compute Operations** You’ll build systems that turn operational signals into decisions and automated workflows across physical assets. - **Incident management for physical assets:** Roll related alarms into a single incident with a probable cause drafted; on-call gets actionable context immediately. - **Close the loop from failure to return to service:** Route machines to repair automatically; triage, pull and scan spares, and handle vendor RMAs. - **Sequence and staff every job:** Run jobs as ordered steps with dependency checks; generate shift todo lists automatically based on availability. - **Run the facility on a unified system:** Maintain one asset register across IT + facilities; schedule preventive maintenance, issue work orders, and run lockout/tagout. Roll out from one live site to all sites while retiring legacy tooling. - **Build operator-friendly tools:** Create simple, guided runbooks (e.g., scan parts of a rack in order) so mistakes are caught and workflows are verified. --- **What We’re Looking For** - Shipped production code in **Go, Python, or TypeScript** (and can pick up whatever language the problem demands). - Identify problems, design solutions, and ship without waiting for direction. - Move fast under deadlines while leaving strong foundations others extend. - Have on-call experience (or worked closely with on-call) and turned operational pain into systems that reduce pager load. - Strong product taste: interfaces and workflows that match how technicians/operators actually work. - **Bonus:** Experience with CMMS/DCIM/WMS/asset management systems, or operations software for fleets of physical assets (e.g., power plants, solar farms, turbines, microgrids). --- **Benefits** - Competitive total compensation (**cash + equity**) - Health, dental, and vision insurance - Retirement plan - Generous PTO --- **Equal Employment Opportunity** Fluidstack is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to protected characteristics under applicable law. --- **Apply** https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/fluidstack/05c2e69c-42f9-4fcb-9cf0-a467aaf98f1c
