Engineering Manager, Integrity and Attestation
Anthropic · San Francisco, CA | Seattle, WA
About this role
## About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—AI that is safe and beneficial for users and society. ## About the team The **Integrity and Attestation** team’s remit is to prove what is running at Anthropic: **what code it is, where it came from, and whether the machine underneath it is in a known-good state**. They build cryptographic verification systems for **build artifacts, model weights, and machines**, from **hardware roots of trust** through **firmware and boot** to the **credentials** a workload receives. They also secure the **management plane** of servers to protect model weights and customer data across cloud providers and bare-metal AI data centers (including partner-operated sites). ## About the role (Engineering Manager) You will lead the team responsible for integrity and attestation as Anthropic brings up new compute quickly across new hardware platforms and partners. ### What you’ll do - Own the **integrity roadmap**: threat model from silicon/firmware up through OS and workloads; decide what to build; deliver it. - Reason about the design and implementation of **remote attestation**, **measured/verified boot**, **hardware roots of trust** (e.g., TPM, SPDM), **machine identity**, and **known-good reference values**. - Make **attestation the default path** so machines receive credentials and join clusters only after proving firmware, system software, and security configuration—**no human in the loop**. - Build **provenance** for what you deploy: signed build artifacts and model weights, independent verification, and tamper-evident transparency logs. - Lead protection of sensitive data **in use and at rest**, including encryption and access chokepoints. - Secure the **server management plane** across every site (scoped/audited access to BMCs and per-device credential management). - Make security **repeatable as compute grows**, so new sites/hardware inherit controls in **hours, not weeks**. - Join compute bring-up, data center, and hardware teams at **design time**. - Define clear ownership with partner teams so security properties remain intact after operations move. - Own the **integrity evidence** for security goals and compliance (prove invariants hold). - Hire, grow, and retain senior security software engineers; set team practices as the org scales. ### Who you are - Low ego, high empathy; built diverse teams and can point to former reports who would vouch for you. - Experience managing infrastructure/security engineering teams (hiring, developing, managing senior/staff engineers). - Experience growing engineers into staff/lead roles; strong performance management. - Proven ability to maintain delivery through hypergrowth, reorgs, charter changes, and leadership turnover. - End-to-end ownership of a security/infrastructure domain: multi-year strategy, cross-org delivery, and executive-level risk/tradeoff communication. - Appreciation for distributed systems and properties beyond security (reliability, efficiency, maintainability). - Hands-on engineering in at least one area: platform security, secure boot/firmware, hardware roots of trust, confidential computing, or software supply chain integrity. - Strong threat modeling and risk assessment across hardware + software. - Comfortable leading through ambiguity with partner teams and vendors (where you don’t control hardware or schedules). ### You may be a good fit if you have - 5+ years managing engineeri
