Learn more: https://network.id.me/ --- ## Role Overview ID.me is seeking a **Principal Software Engineer (SDE6), Data** to join **Core Platform Engineering** and lead the architectural evolution of ID.me’s **data ecosystem**. You will serve as the primary technical strategist and hands-on architectural driver for the **Data** side of ID.me’s platform transformation—assessing current relational, event-driven, and graph-based systems, identifying bottlenecks and opportunities, and defining a pragmatic, multi-phase plan to reach a resilient, scalable, cloud-native target architecture. This role is **full-time in-office** and based in **Mountain View, CA** or **McLean, VA**. --- ## Responsibilities - **Assess & Synthesize Current State:** Build a deep understanding of ID.me’s data landscape, technical debt, operational bottlenecks, and business priorities across relational databases, graph systems, event streaming, and core data APIs. - **Define & Drive the Data Evolution Plan:** Own the end-to-end architectural roadmap with incremental milestones that safely modernize legacy patterns into API-first, event-driven architectures. - **Architect Foundational Data Systems:** Lead design/implementation of core capabilities including foundational data APIs, event-driven architectures (e.g., Pub/Sub, streaming pipelines), graph data models, encryption/data protection services, and automated data lifecycle/retention. - **Bridge Business Objectives & Technical Strategy:** Partner with executive leadership, product, and domain architects to translate business goals and regulatory mandates into future-proof data architectures and data contracts. - **Establish Data Modeling & Governance Guardrails:** Define standards and paved paths for logical/physical modeling (relational + graph), schema hygiene, metadata management, data lineage, and access patterns. - **Embed Security, Privacy & Compliance by Design:** Ensure storage, encryption, retention, and access architectures meet regulatory requirements (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST 800-63, GDPR) with auditability. - **Hands-On Technical Leadership:** Dive into critical codebases, build prototypes, lead architectural reviews, and unblock complex migrations and performance optimizations. - **Influence & Elevate Engineering Culture:** Mentor engineers, evangelize modern data ownership/stewardship, and align cross-functional teams around a unified data vision. --- ## Basic Qualifications - Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering (or equivalent practical experience) - **10+ years** hands-on experience in software engineering, distributed systems, and data architecture at a large-scale SaaS/fintech/identity/platform company - Proven ability to step into complex **brownfield** environments and deliver multi-quarter transformation roadmaps - Deep expertise designing/building evolving large-scale data architectures across relational (e.g., PostgreSQL), event-driven systems, and graph/NoSQL stores - Strong proficiency in
