**Principal Engineer, Agentic AI — Steer (Core Platform Team)** Steer builds a suite of software tools for automotive repair shops, including a CRM marketing platform (text messaging, email automation, direct mail, reputation management, appointment reminders, and more) and an integrated scheduling experience via AutoOps. Steer is refactoring its engineering teams to be **agentic-first**—engineers architect systems around autonomous, AI-driven workflows (not just using AI as a tool). --- ## About the Role You’ll help usher Steer’s CRM platform into the next generation of software. This is a **high-impact, architect-level role**: you’ll challenge conventions, lead product direction from vision to launch, and own major parts of the platform. --- ## Why Steer - **True Ownership:** Lead massive products end-to-end in lean, high-velocity teams. - **Hyper-Growth & Vision:** You’ll shape a category with massive scale potential. - **Freedom to Innovate:** Experiment with and implement new techniques directly in the core product. - **AI-First & Agentic Culture:** Teams are being rebuilt around AI/LLM expertise and autonomous workflows. --- ## What You’ll Do - **Technical Strategy & Ownership:** Optimize core CRM components—especially how Steer ingests and processes data to power automation. - **Architectural Vision:** Design reusable full-stack components and services that scale with performance. - **Adaptive Development:** Pivot quickly between integrations and core infrastructure as business needs evolve. - **Customer-Centric Engineering:** Partner with Product to ensure architecture delivers real value to auto repair shops. - **Code Excellence:** Champion security, test automation, and maintainability; lead deep-dive code reviews. - **Modern DevOps & Agentic Infrastructure:** Influence CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and IaC; build AI-integrated, agentic-ready infrastructure. --- ## What You Have ### Must Have - **7+ years** building complex, web-based SaaS products. - **All-in mindset:** Strong ownership, accountability, and commitment to Steer’s mission. - **AI & LLM integration:** Hands-on experience with LLMs and prompt engineering; use AI to accelerate development. - **AI in production:** Experience deploying AI-powered features and autonomous (agentic) workflows. - **AI-driven CI/CD:** Integrate AI tooling into pipelines (e.g., automated code review agents, AI-assisted testing, agentic orchestration). - **Database expertise:** Relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Redis), including schema design and query optimization. - **Exceptional communication:** Translate technical concepts into product outcomes and collaborate effectively with leadership. ### Nice to Have - Familiarity with **.NET, Node.js (TypeScript), and React**. - Experience with **Terraform / CloudFormation**. - Background as a **founding engineer** or in an early-stage startup. - Experience building/integrating with **Claude marketplace plugins** (Anthropic ecosystem), including prompt chaining, tool use, or MCP integrations. --- ## Interview Process 1. **Initial Screen** — 30 min with Lead Recruiter 2. **Hiring Manager Interview** — 60 min with Head of Engineering & Product 3. **Technical Interview** — 60 min with a Principal Engineer 4. **Collaborative Interview** — 30 min with Lead Product Manager --- ## What We Offer - **Equity options** - **100% remote** (work from anywhere in the US) - **100% employer-paid medical insurance** - **Flexible PTO** (15
