About this role
## Senior Product Builder - Hub ### About Camunda Camunda is the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration—helping organizations coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex, end-to-end business processes. With built-in governance, auditability, and human oversight, Camunda helps move AI from pilots to production safely and at scale. Camunda is fully remote and global, and is transforming into an AI-first organization built on its own platform. ### About the Role **Camunda Hub** is where enterprises run Camunda at scale. Hub manages clusters and tenants, controls who can do what, and rolls out changes across the organization. As a **Senior Product Builder**, you will own the **backend and architecture** that lets Hub manage a fleet of clusters. Your initial focus is the mechanism that propagates **access, secrets, tenant, and license changes** to connected clusters—while bringing back **deployments, health, and audit records**. You’ll join a **new two-person pod** in a remote-first team, with real ownership and the ability to build AI-first—from written specs through to production. ### What You Will Do - Take over Hub’s **fleet propagation mechanism** and extend it for **access, secrets, tenants, licenses, and custom roles** - Write **short design documents** for foundational changes, get them reviewed by dependent teams, and turn them into **tested, shipped code** - Design Hub behavior for failure scenarios, including **offline clusters, partial failures, Hub outages, and cluster adoption/detachment** - Build the path from clusters back to Hub, starting with **deployment inventory, health, audit records, and license status** - Design Hub’s **first event and webhook mechanism** so admins and agents can react to changes without polling - Participate in **rotations and Hub on-call**, and help other backend builders through **reviews, guidelines, and contract tests** ### What You Will Bring - Experience building and operating **production backend systems** that other teams/customers depend on - Ability to take an **unowned problem** and turn it into a design, plan, and shipped code - Strong **product judgment** for technical users (API/platform trade-offs) - Clear, concise writing that enables **asynchronous decisions** in a remote team - Care for **failure behavior** (not just the happy path) ### Must Haves - Designed and shipped a **control plane** (or similar) that pushes desired state to many targets - Familiar with patterns such as **outbox/event-log**, **idempotent apply**, **versioning**, **retries**, and **drift reconciliation** - Senior backend engineering in **Java** - API design, relational data models, multi-tenant SaaS services - Hands-on **Helm** and **Kubernetes** for self-managed installations - Software architecture and failure analysis - Partial failure, blast radius, consistency trade-offs - Debugged production incidents in distributed systems and ready for on-call - Shaped an API/platform as a product and can write design docs other teams can build on - Achieves agreement across teams without formal authority - Can build **AI-first from written specifications** and checks AI output like any other code ### Nice to Haves - Kubernetes operators or **GitOps** tools (e.g., **Argo CD**) - **OIDC, SCIM**, permission models, secret managers, or license systems - **Camunda 8** or another workflow/orchestration engine - Enough frontend skill to build a thin UI on top of backend capabilities #
