You’ll be comfortable building new services and tackling long-tail problems in existing systems. You’ll work closely with backend, infrastructure, and application engineers, as well as customer support, to deliver an unmatched customer experience. ### How You’ll Help Us Win - Contribute to a collection of highly-scalable services (some stateless, some stateful) - Services run in multiple regions, support spiky-but-predictable workloads, and ship via multi-stage rollouts **By 30 Days** - Understand and improve existing services (with support from existing team members) - Analyze runtime and cost efficiency; propose improvements and strategies **By 90 Days** - Lead development of new services, such as: - A **k8s operator** to control a service’s lifecycle - A **cloud storage caching layer** - Participate in technology evaluations and architecture evolution discussions - Harden and productize internally or externally developed libraries and services **By 1 Year** - Re-evaluate the relationship between backend services and the user-facing application - Drive scalability improvements without adding unnecessary friction ### Requirements **Hard Skills** - Proficiency with **Rails** (or another full-stack framework), including: - **ActiveRecord** (or analogous ORM) - Database schema design - Query performance optimization - Proficiency with **k8s** and **Go** (or another systems language), including: - Garbage collection knowledge - Profiling experience - **Cgo** is a bonus - Familiarity with our stack (or equivalents): **GCP/GKE, Linux, Docker, Ruby/Rails, Redis, ffmpeg** - Experience in **SaaS/PaaS** at scale (currently **100s of millions of async jobs/week**) - Video streaming at scale is a bonus **Soft Skills** - Curiosity-driven and pragmatic; focused on delivering results - Generalist mindset with ability to dive deep across challenges - Resilience, attention to detail, and ability to grind through complex problems - Openness to disagreement and commitment to decisions once made - Strong collaboration skills; able to explain complex insights to technical and non-technical audiences - Independence in managing workload and priorities ### What’s in It for You - Shape foundational backend services of a growing company - Balance innovation with incremental improvement - Dynamic, collaborative engineering team - Competitive compensation and benefits - Supportive environment for innovatio
