**Zscaler — Sr. Engineering Manager, API Platform** **Overview** Zscaler accelerates digital transformation with the Zero Trust Exchange platform—protecting thousands of customers from cyberattacks and data loss by securely connecting users, devices, and applications anywhere. This is a **hybrid** role based in **Santa Clara, CA (3 days/week)**, reporting to the **Sr. Director for the API Platform team**. You’ll deliver scalable, secure, high-performing platforms and systems that empower engineering teams—improving platform efficiency, scalability, and developer experience while leading senior technical talent. **Role Expectations (What you’ll do)** - Lead the **API Platform** and **developer tooling** vision and roadmap, aligned to organizational goals and industry best practices. - Oversee **API standardization, design, and governance** to improve developer experience and productivity. - Direct architecture and standards for **product and provisioning APIs**, ensuring distributed state changes are reliable, reproducible, and fully traceable. - Manage and coach a team of **Senior Staff Engineers** and technical contributors, fostering collaboration and growth. - Ensure delivery of **microservices, workflow workers, and SDKs** optimized for reliability, availability, and safe retry semantics using **Java, Go, Python**, with **gRPC, Temporal, Postgres, Redis**. - Partner with **Product Management** and **Security** to build scalable, secure solutions. - Champion **Shared Ownership** to eliminate knowledge silos and enable collaborative architecture, dataset design, and foundational services. **Success Profile (Who you are)** - Thrive in ambiguity and build the path as you go. - Act with true ownership—balancing high-level strategy with hands-on execution. - Love solving hard problems and driving meaningful impact. - High-trust collaborator who embraces feedback and candor. - Growth-minded learner who actively seeks feedback and improves continuously. **Minimum Qualifications (What we’re looking for)** - Curiosity and hands-on exploration of **AI tools**, with a history of integrating new technologies to improve workflows and problem-solving. - **8+ years** engineering leadership experience, including **3+ years** managing teams for developer tooling, API platforms, or cloud systems across multi-language ecosystems (**Java, Go, JavaScript**). - **10+ years** overall software engineering experience, including hands-on API/SDK design for **Kubernetes/Docker**-based environments. - Deep understanding of distributed systems (e.g., **caching, queues, pub/sub**) with cloud experience in **AWS, GCP, or Azure**. - Advanced API-first design knowledge: **OpenAPI/Swagger, REST, JSON, AuthN/AuthZ**. **Preferred Qualifications (What will make you stand out)** - Practical experience applying modern AI tools to the **SDLC**. - Experience in **Cloud Security and Networking**. - Experience driving engineering practices for workflow automation and developer productivity (open-source or proprietary tools). - Advocate of modern practices such as **DevSecOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code**. **Compensation & Benefits** - **Base Pay Range:** **$212,000 – $265,000 USD** (excluding commission/bonus/equity if applicable + benefits). - Benefits include health plans, time off, parental leave options, retirement options, education reimbursement, and in-office perks. **Tags** #LI-Hybrid #LI-AJ1 **Equal Opportunity** Zscaler is an equal opportunity employ
