Director of Embedded Software Platform
Brelle · Los Alamitos, CA
About this role
**Director of Embedded Software Platform** **About Brelle Energy** Brelle is building a new approach to manufacturing for an increasingly electrified world—bringing together advanced engineering, software, testing, and automated production to develop high-performance energy and powertrain systems. We’re a California-based, venture-backed team working with demanding names in high-performance mobility. We’re early, so this is a real ownership role: tackle difficult technical problems, build foundational systems, and see your work move from idea to production. --- **About the Role** As **Director of Embedded Software Platform**, you’ll lead the architecture and development of the embedded software foundations powering Brelle’s next-generation energy and powertrain systems. This is a **hands-on technical leadership** role spanning the embedded software stack—from low-level firmware and drivers to platform architecture, infrastructure, and integration across multiple **ECUs**. You’ll balance near-term product delivery with long-term platform investments that enable reuse, reliability, and scale. --- **What You’ll Do** **Embedded Platform Architecture & Technical Direction** - Own the technical direction and evolution of Brelle’s embedded software platform. - Define software architecture across layers including OS, drivers, middleware, hardware abstraction, communication interfaces, diagnostics, and application integration. - Establish software interfaces and architectural boundaries to enable reuse across ECUs, hardware configurations, and customer programs. - Evaluate approaches, technologies, and tools—making trade-offs across performance, reliability, maintainability, development speed, and hardware constraints. - Create a platform roadmap balancing immediate needs with long-term investments. - Identify opportunities to simplify the stack, improve consistency, and accelerate development. **Engineering Execution & Production Readiness** - Lead embedded software development from architecture and early bring-up through integration, validation, release, and production deployment. - Drive resolution of complex issues across firmware, hardware, communications, and system behavior. - Establish standards for code quality, testing, configuration management, version control, and software release. - Build/evolve tools and infrastructure (automated testing, build systems, CI, debugging workflows). - Ensure reliability, diagnosability, and maintainability in real-world operating conditions. - Guide decisions around firmware updates, cybersecurity, functional safety, and software lifecycle management as needed. **Cross-Functional Systems Integration** - Partner with electrical, battery, systems, and vehicle engineering teams on requirements, interfaces, and integration strategy. - Ensure embedded architecture supports system-level performance, reliability, safety, and functionality. - Align on technical dependencies, interface definitions, and integration priorities. - Debug difficult issues and move solutions from prototype to production. - Balance platform standardization with flexibility for different hardware configurations and customer programs. **Technical Leadership & Team Development** - Build and develop a high-performing embedded software team (hiring, ownership, and accountability). - Set technical direction while empowering engineers to own outcomes. - Establish effective engineering practices (architecture reviews, code reviews,
