**Motional — Senior Robotics Engineer (Systems Readiness & Performance)** Motional is a leading autonomous driving company on a mission to make driverless vehicles a safe, reliable, and accessible reality. The **Systems Readiness and Performance** team bridges software development and real-world deployment. You’ll help drive system design, verify and validate the autonomy stack, and define/measure/validate system performance targets—supporting the safety case for the commercial launch of Motional’s fully driverless **IONIQ 5 robotaxis in Las Vegas**. --- ## What You’ll Be Doing - **System Diagnosis & Root Cause Analysis:** Investigate undesirable AV behaviors across simulation, HIL, and on-road operations. Own investigations end-to-end—from triage to resolution—with little to no oversight. - **Cross-Subsystem Debugging:** Debug behaviors spanning **perception, prediction, localization, planning, controls, and vehicle systems**. Diagnose emergent issues caused by component interactions. - **Data Analysis & Tooling:** Use **Python** to analyze logs, telemetry, and software outputs. Build automated diagnostic workflows and internal tooling (including **Spaceship**) to scale investigations. - **Performance Visualization:** Design and build interactive dashboards using Python and BI tools (e.g., **Looker**) to measure and report AV system performance. - **Hypothesis Generation:** Form technical hypotheses from incomplete/ambiguous evidence, distinguish symptoms from root causes, and design analyses to test potential causes. - **Problem Space Identification:** Identify recurring undesirable behaviors, regressions, and emerging system-level performance issues; categorize them into meaningful failure modes. - **Technical Storytelling & Synthesis:** “Dive deep” to uncover root causes, then synthesize findings into clear summaries that support executive reporting and unified release narratives. --- ## What We’re Looking For - **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (CS, Electrical, Systems, Robotics) or equivalent experience; a Master’s is a strong plus. - **Robotics Experience:** **5+ years** of professional software or systems engineering on safety-critical, complex systems (e.g., Autonomous Vehicles, Robotics, Medical Devices, Aerospace). Strong understanding of robotics systems (sensors, actuators, autonomy stacks). - **Data & Analytics Expertise:** Strong **Python** proficiency for data analysis and scripting; experience building data visualizations with Python frameworks. Willingness to learn BI tools (e.g., Looker). - **Systems Thinking & Quality:** Strong analytical/problem-solving skills for complex performance evaluation; ability to perform rigorous root cause analysis using system logs while maintaining high data quality. - **Engineering Workflows:** Proficiency with **Git** and standard version control; comfortable in fast-paced **agile CI/CD** environments. - **Autonomy & Communication:** Ability to work independently and collaborate cross-functionally; strong communication skills to translate complex findings into clear summaries for teams and leadership. --- ## Bonus Points (not required) - Experience with AV-specific diagnostic/visualization tools (e.g., **Planner Analyzer**). - Knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques relevant to performance evalu
