About this role

**UTM Engineer - DoorDash Air** ## About the Team DoorDash Air is bringing drone delivery to reality. We’re building a strong electrical team to design high reliability, high power density converters, and fault-tolerant controls electronics—so we can build a new class of aircraft and deploy at scale. DoorDash Labs (est. 2018) serves as DoorDash’s innovation hub, focusing on automation and robotics solutions to enhance last-mile logistics. Our mission is to create technologies that support and augment human networks, improving efficiency for Dashers, merchants, and consumers. ## About the Role We’re hiring a **Senior UTM Engineer** to build core components of DoorDash Air’s internal **route planning** and **airspace deconfliction** stack. You’ll help decide where aircraft can safely fly, coordinate with other operators and airspace authorities, and ensure internal stakeholders and external systems can communicate in shared terms. This role is for someone who has lived through the full lifecycle of a distributed, interoperable, uptime-critical system—where mistakes have real consequences—and wants to bring that judgment to a fast-moving aerial delivery network. ## You’re excited about this opportunity because you will… - Design, build, and deploy **interoperable services** that pass rigorous conformance and integration testing (often with external/open-source systems). - Develop **path planning** and **airspace deconfliction** algorithms for safe, efficient routes in real-world, dynamic environments. - Build tools to help teams evaluate and optimize **airspace efficiency and utilization**. - Design integrations connecting the deconfliction stack to existing DoorDash systems, translating mission/airspace status into actionable terms. - Collaborate with systems engineering, commercial operations, and flight operations to ship features that hold up in real-world flight. - Represent DoorDash Air externally by engaging with peer companies, working groups, and standards bodies to improve interoperable deployments. ## We’re excited about you because you have… - A **Bachelor’s or Master’s** degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. - **5+ years** across the full lifecycle (design, build, deployment, operation) of distributed systems in aviation, finance, communications, healthcare, or similar—where interoperability, uptime, and (ideally) safety-criticality matter. - Experience building and shipping production services that interoperate with systems you don’t control, including passing external/open-source conformance/certification testing. - Hands-on experience with **path planning/routing/deconfliction** in real-world dynamic environments (or the algorithmic depth to pick it up quickly). - Comfort building **evaluation and analysis tooling** to give teams visibility into performance and efficiency. - Ability to design clean integrations across organizational boundaries and translate technical system state for non-engineering stakeholders. - Strong communication skills and comfort representing your work externally (standards working groups, industry forums, peer collaboration). - Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience with languages/paradigms common to safety- and uptime-critical distributed systems (e.g., **C++, Python, Go**, plus familiarity with real-time/fault-tolerant design). - BS/MS/PhD in CS, EE, Aerospace, Robotics, or related—or equivalent practical experience. ## Nice to have -
