## Envoy — Member of Technical Staff, Envoy Response (L3) ### About the Role The **Response team** builds technology that helps organizations: - Protect their people - Stay ahead of emerging threats - Communicate effectively during critical situations As a **Senior Fullstack Engineer** (backend-focused fullstack), you’ll help build and scale: - **Threat Intelligence platform**: processes large volumes of real-time signals from thousands of sources, uses AI to identify/enrich relevant threats, and helps customers understand potential risks. - **Emergency Notifications platform**: delivers critical communications quickly and reliably across multiple channels. This role requires **on-site work 4 days/week (Mon–Thu)** in **San Francisco HQ**. ### What You’ll Do - Build and scale **real-time threat intelligence** systems (ingest, process, classify, enrich signals) - Solve **distributed systems** challenges (high-throughput event processing, deduplication, reliable async workflows) - Apply **AI** to real-world engineering problems (reduce noise, deliver actionable insights) - Build and evolve **emergency notification** systems across **SMS, email, mobile push, Slack**, etc. - Design/build/operate scalable **backend services, APIs, and data models** using **Kotlin, Kafka, Postgres, AWS, OpenSearch** - Own customer-facing experiences using **React** and **TypeScript** - Drive technical design/architecture decisions (scalability, reliability, performance, simplicity) - Own features end-to-end, including production operations, monitoring, and continuous improvement - Partner with **Product, Design, and Engineering** to turn complex problems into simple solutions - Raise the engineering bar via code reviews, mentorship, and improved engineering practices ### You Have - **BS/MS** in Computer Science or related field - **7+ years** building/operating production software; strong **backend** expertise with full-stack experience - Strong backend fundamentals (e.g., **Kotlin/Java**) - Experience designing **scalable distributed systems**, **microservices**, and **APIs** - Experience with **Postgres** (data modeling, query optimization, performance) - Experience with **async/event-driven** systems and/or **Kafka** - Proficiency with **React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS** (ability to ship frontend features) - Strong product mindset and ability to deliver meaningful customer value - Experience driving technical projects independently and collaborating across teams ### Nice to Have - Experience building **AI-powered applications** or integrating **LLMs** in production - Experience with **high-throughput data pipelines**, stream processing, or **OpenSearch** - Experience with **geospatial data**, real-time alerting, or mission-critical communications ### You’ll Get - Work on problems that matter (safety, threat understanding, emergency response) - Technically challenging work (distributed systems, real-time pipelines, notification infrastructure) - Build with AI on meaningful product problems - High ownership and autonomy (design to production) - Backend depth with fullstack opportunities - Collaborative environment with strong Product/Design partnership - Competitive compensation, benefits, and growth opportunities ### Notes By applying, you acknowledge you’ve read the job requirements and the Envoy Privacy Notice: https://envoy.com/privacypolicy/ **Envoy is an EEO Employer.**
