**About Affirm** At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most. **Role: Staff Software Engineer, Frontend (Decisions Orchestration)** Decisions Orchestration owns key moments in Affirm’s checkout flow—from the screens shoppers see to the behind-the-scenes orchestration and state management that power them. We’re looking for a **Staff Software Engineer, Frontend** to set the technical direction for this space. You’ll lead the design of the next generation of Affirm’s checkout experience and raise the bar for frontend engineering across our core checkout flows. Your goal: make checkout **fast, clear, and reliable**. --- **What you’ll do** - Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale and help connect it to critical, business-impacting projects. - Collaborate across product development with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are understood and managed. - Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes. - Own team operations and availability: ensure monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting are in place to support “keep the lights on” on-call. - Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks. - Help develop talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. --- **What we look for** - **8+ years** building and architecting web applications using declarative UI frameworks like **React** or **Vue**. - Proficiency with **JavaScript/TypeScript**. - Experience delivering major features/system components or deprecating functionality via clear technical and execution plans; write high-quality code that others can easily understand and use. - Comfort working in ambiguity—moving from low-level language idioms to the architecture of large systems. - A growth/impact trajectory that shows you can gather and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers. - Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team. - Requires either equivalent practical experience or a **Bachelor’s degree** in a related field. --- **Compensation & Location** - **Base Pay Grade:** P - **Equity Grade:** USA 13 - **#LI-Remote** **USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT):** $230,000 - $290,000 **USA base pay range (all other U.S. states):** $204,000 - $264,000 Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range.
