**Staff Software Engineer, UI Tooling — Airbnb** **About the team** Airbnb was born in 2007, and today supports millions of hosts and billions of guest arrivals worldwide. The **UI Foundation** team is responsible for Airbnb’s **design system, accessibility, motion, and tooling** that connects how Airbnb designs and builds products. Within UI Foundation, **UI Tooling** is the connective tissue between Airbnb’s **Design Language System** and the day-to-day workflows of **hundreds of designers, engineers, and product managers**. UI Tooling owns the platforms, integrations, and tooling that power how teams work—spanning design tooling, UI engineering workflow tooling, collaboration platforms, and increasingly **AI-powered workflows**. **The impact you’ll make** As a **Staff Software Engineer** on the **UI Tooling** team, you’ll lead **Kyber**, Airbnb’s **prototyping and rapid deployment platform**. You’ll drive the implementation, maintenance, and scaling of a system that supports **thousands of internal projects and users**, enabling **non-technical builders** to express ideas across Airbnb’s product surface areas. **You’ll own strategy and execution across:** - **Rebuild Kyber** onto Airbnb’s next-generation cloud platforms - **Evolve Kyber** capabilities to support the product development process - **Integrate Kyber** into the ecosystem to support prototyping workflows **A typical day includes:** - Setting technical direction for the Kyber platform and making architectural decisions for rapid deployment of internal applications and feature prototypes - Writing and reviewing code hands-on (including with **AI coding agents**), establishing standards for **quality, availability, and system health** - Partnering with **Infrastructure, Product, Security, and Design** to translate cross-organizational objectives into platform capabilities - Advancing capabilities for **Product Managers, Designers, and other non-technical builders** to create rich prototypes that translate into production features - Mentoring engineers and acting as a force multiplier through design reviews, technical guidance, and a collaborative, inclusive culture **Your expertise** - **9+ years** of industry experience, ideally delivering large-scale service-oriented systems in fast-paced environments - Broad full-stack capability across **backend, frontend, mobile, APIs, and system architecture** - Proven experience building customer-facing products **from zero to one** (product definition → architecture → development → launch) - End-to-end product ownership: iterating after launch, responding to feedback, improving adoption/usability/business outcomes - Strong architectural design skills (distributed services, well-designed APIs, data pipelines, efficient algorithms, reliable integrations) - Sound technical judgment balancing speed, experimentation, scalability, and long-term quality - Product-first engineering mindset - Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams and leadership **Location** - **US — Remote Eligible** (occasional office/offsite work may be required as agreed with your manager) - You must live in a state where Airbnb has a registered entity (see Airbnb’s up-to-date excluded states list) **Inclusion & belonging** Airbnb is committed to working with the broadest talent pool possible and encourages all qualified individuals to apply. **Pay range (base)** - **$212,000 — $265,000 USD** **Reasonable accommodations** If you need assistan
