## Founding AI Research Lead — Agentic AI Lab **Location:** San Francisco Bay Area **Type:** Full-time **Backed by:** 8VC ### About the Role Fabrion is building world-class enterprise AI infrastructure focused on **trusted AI for enterprise operations**. You’ll lead research within the **Agentic AI Lab**, training and evaluating specialized models for mission-critical work. This is **full-cycle research**: **problem formulation, data, training, evaluation, and deployment**—with your name on the results. > Note: The company shares additional thesis details under NDA during the interview process. ### Core Responsibilities - **Own the research agenda:** model & training design, evaluation protocol, and publication plan - **Move from benchmarks to real deployments:** take models from public results to **customer shadow deployments** with gates you define and defend - **Set benchmark discipline:** strong baselines first, published comparables, results that hold up under scrutiny - **Lead and grow a small team** (ML engineer, data engineer, contractors) and partner closely with founders + the platform team - **Write technical plans internally** and **publish externally** when results warrant it ### Desired Experience - Hands-on experience training sequence models—owning the **tokenizer, training loop, and evaluation** (not just fine-tuning via APIs) - Strong background in at least **two** of: - Reinforcement learning (especially **offline** and **imitation** settings) - Sequence decision modeling - Structured or constrained generation - Learning from **event and log data** - Track record of shipping research into a product or delivering a rigorous benchmark result - **PhD in ML** (or closely related field) or equivalent research record ### Preferred Tech Stack - **PyTorch**, Hugging Face ecosystem - Experiment tracking + reproducible training pipelines - Modern cloud data warehouses - Evaluation harness engineering ### Soft Skills & Mindset - Comfortable being the **most senior researcher**: set direction under ambiguity and document decisions - **Rigor over hype:** distrust results until baselines agree - A **teacher’s instinct:** help turn strong engineers into researchers ### Why This Role Matters Specialized models built on governed enterprise data can power real, large-scale workflows.
