Member of Deployed Staff, Forward Deployed Engineer
Factory · San Francisco, CA
About this role
## About Factory Factory’s mission is to create a world where software builds and improves itself. We build the platform for self-improving software development—helping enterprise engineering teams turn their organizations into autonomous software factories. Customers including Nvidia, Blackstone, RBC, Palo Alto Networks, Adobe, and T-Mobile use Factory to ship code, review PRs, run tests, and deploy continuously. ## Role: Forward Deployed Engineer (Member of Deployed Staff) As a **Forward Deployed Engineer**, you’ll help ensure every Factory deployment succeeds—whether that means faster developer workflows, large-scale migrations, or accelerated product delivery. This role sits at the intersection of **engineering, product, customer success, and go-to-market**, with broad exposure across the business. You’ll lead Factory’s highest-impact customer implementations and special engineering projects as our customer base grows rapidly. ## What You’ll Do - **Lead end-to-end implementations and integrations** of Factory into customer engineering environments, partnering directly with customer teams to design robust, optimized workflows. - Act as the **primary technical lead** on customer engagements and drive adoption. - You’ll be **on-site regularly** (typically about **once a month**, mostly within your region) to solve hard engineering problems and reduce time to value. - Deliver **large-scale migrations, modernization, and refactoring** in complex production systems, owning the technical outcome. - **Respond quickly** to customer needs (integrations, critical issue resolution in unfamiliar codebases, and tailored ways to use Factory). - Learn customer use cases deeply, and build the **tooling and documentation** needed to grow at scale. - Stay current on software development practices and technologies so Factory remains at the forefront of **AI in engineering**. ## Qualifications - **4–10 years** of engineering experience. - Ideally from companies that deploy complex technical products into demanding customer environments (e.g., Databricks, MongoDB, Meta, Palantir, Snowflake, Stripe, Cloudflare, Vannevar, Anduril, Scale). - Strong experience delivering **migrations/refactors** or similar changes in complex production systems in a **customer-facing** role (major plus). - Ability to quickly grasp new technologies, languages, and development practices; broad stack proficiency is valued. - Strong problem-solving skills: diagnosing, debugging, and resolving technical challenges in customer settings. - Excellent communication skills and a track record of building relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Intrinsic motivation to fix customer problems and ensure deployments succeed. - A hunger to learn and continuously improve (your skills and the product’s value). - Deep expertise in an industry such as **financial services, healthcare, or public sector** is a plus. ## Location / Work Setup - **In-office position (5 days/week)** in **San Francisco, New York, London, or Washington, DC**.
