About this role

## Senior Platform Engineer (FedD202) **Role Description** We are seeking a talented **Sr. Platform Engineer** to join the Navy Delivery team. This role sits at the intersection of **platform engineering, application development, DevOps, and application security**. You will help application teams integrate, package, secure, deploy, and operate software on the **Unicorn Delivery Service (UDS)** and **Kubernetes-based environments**. You’ll understand both sides of the application/platform boundary—working with application source code, APIs, containers, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes resources, Helm charts, and production runtime concerns. You’ll collaborate directly with application teams to translate their needs into repeatable deployment artifacts and processes, and identify issues across application and platform layers. **Experience with modern web applications and APIs is valuable** (e.g., React, Vue, NGINX-hosted static assets, C#/.NET, Python/FastAPI). Direct experience with every technology is not required—strong ability to learn unfamiliar architectures quickly is. --- ## Responsibilities - Serve as a crucial link between applications (custom development, COTS, or OSS) and the Navy platform environment; advocate best practices and facilitate communication between application and platform teams. - Evaluate and weigh approaches to solve complex technical problems; identify innovative solutions. - Solve technical problems spanning **2–3 knowledge domains**, with expert knowledge in **1–2 key technologies** (e.g., full-stack development, CI/CD, GitOps, Kubernetes, Tofu, AWS, Go, or others). - Contribute to strategic planning aligning technical advancements with mission objectives. - Demonstrate strong programming skills and deep familiarity with **Linux/Unix**. - Implement **infrastructure as code** and contribute to build/maintenance of Kubernetes clusters on distributions such as **EKS** and **RKE2**. - Apply extensive experience with cloud-native deployments, emphasizing **secure coding** and **vulnerability remediation**. - Build relationships with external teams and collaborate with other platform teams. - **Travel expectations:** 4–12 times per year. --- ## Required Experience & Qualifications - Professional experience developing, deploying, supporting, or operating production applications or platform environments. - Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, or Kubernetes-based environments. - Strong Linux/Unix skills; ability to troubleshoot across application and platform layers. - Experience working with application architectures, source code, APIs, containers, runtime dependencies, or deployment requirements. - Experience with **YAML-based configuration** (e.g., Kubernetes manifests, Helm configuration, CRDs, CI/CD pipelines). - Familiarity with security practices for applications, APIs, containers, cloud infrastructure, and vulnerability remediation. - Strong problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and adapt to unfamiliar technologies and ambiguous problems. - Ability to collaborate effectively with application, platform, and external teams. - Eligible to apply for and maintain a **U.S. government security clearance**. - Ability to obtain a **DoD 8570 IAT II** certification. --- ## Preferred Experience & Qualifications - Deep expertise in one or more areas such as full-stack development, Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD, Tofu, AWS, Go, or related technologie
