Security Data Engineer
Anthropic · Remote-Friendly (Travel Required) | San Francisco, CA
About this role
**Security Data Engineer — Anthropic (DCSE)** ## About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. ## About the role Claude is trained and served on hardware in Anthropic data centers and in partner sites. DCSE secures that footprint: the sites, the hardware moving through them, and the people and vendors who touch it. You’ll own the data systems that power security at scale—specifically: - **Component-level hardware inventory and chain of custody** (with tamper-evident storage) - **Custody workflows and field/site/host software** to capture events as they happen - **Continuous control monitoring and posture calculations** to determine what each site is cleared to run The goal is **security that runs itself**, with custody, access, and evidence verified continuously from records—supported by tools and AI agents. The team favors **simple, standard controls** that can be verified. You’ll collaborate with DCSE engineers (including the security monitoring platform), compute/data center operations teams, and directly with data center operators, hardware vendors, and logistics providers. **Location:** San Francisco (remote applicants in the US considered). Regular travel to data center sites is expected. ## Key responsibilities - **Hardware inventory & chain of custody:** Own the component-level record of what hardware exists, where it is, and who handled it—data model, pipelines joining inventory + custody events, change history, and tamper-evident stores. - **Tools, automation & AI agents:** Build tools/agents for reconciliation, audit evidence exports, and custody checks—especially to eliminate recurring manual review work. - **Custody workflows & field software:** Build workflows and site/host software to capture custody events (receipt, move, data wipe, decommission) and enforce authorization to record them. - **Continuous control monitoring & posture:** Own pipelines that convert check outcomes, assessment results, and findings into per-control/per-site measures over time, aligned to compliance frameworks, and used for posture decisions. - **Data quality:** Implement coverage checks, reconciliation against sources, and alerts for silent/drifting feeds; ensure wrong/missing records are caught quickly; own retention and access controls. - **Integration & reporting:** Align schemas/interfaces with the security monitoring platform team; build query surfaces and reports used by team/site leads and leadership. ## Minimum qualifications - Designed and operated **production data systems** (relational schemas, CDC, batch/streaming pipelines) with strong correctness practices (coverage measurement, reconciliation, silence alerts, resilience to corrupted/lost records). - Integrated with **external systems** you don’t control (inventory tools, ticketing systems, vendor APIs) and built durable data models. - Shipped software that runs **outside a central service** (host agents, site-local services, edge collectors) and maintained correctness in the field—or built/defended metrics used for decisions. - Hands-on experience with data about **physical assets or security controls** (hardware fleet, data center/supply chain inventory, asset custody, security/compliance evidence). - Comfortable reading/reviewing others’ code and building with **AI coding agents** using Git and code review. - Own a domain end-to-end: approach, design/build with teams/vendors,
