System Security Engineer, Space
Anduril Industries · Costa Mesa, California, United States
About this role
**Anduril Industries — System Security Engineer (Space)** ## About Anduril Anduril is a defense technology company on a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. Its AI-powered operating system, **Lattice OS**, turns thousands of data streams into a real-time, 3D command and control center—helping bring autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking to the military in months, not years. ## About the Team The **Space team** expands Anduril’s AI-powered capabilities into the final frontier—enhancing **Space Domain Awareness, Space Control, and Command & Control** for U.S. military and allied partners. The team develops integrated hardware and software systems, including **Lattice for Space Missions** and **modular payloads**, to address growing threats in space. ## About the Job Anduril is hiring a **Systems Security Engineer** to own the architecture for one or more space programs. You’ll be the **technical security authority**, working directly with subsystem **Responsible Engineers (REs)** across **flight software, avionics, RF/comms, and ground**, as well as **Government customers**, to ensure each system can withstand real threats—and prove it at every milestone. This is an **engineering** role, not a compliance role. You won’t run RMF paperwork or administer accreditation packages (ISSOs/ISSMs handle that). Your job is to **make the system secure**; theirs is to **show it**. You’ll take a program from **customer need** through **on-orbit operations**, translating threat intelligence and mission requirements into a security architecture, decomposing it into subsystem requirements, and verifying what gets built matches what was designed. ## What You’ll Do - Own the **end-to-end security architecture** across space, ground, link, and user segments - Derive security requirements from **customer needs**, **threat assessments**, and applicable space security policy; then flow down to subsystem specifications - Design protections for **command & telemetry links** (authentication, encryption, anti-replay, key management) - Define the onboard security foundation: **secure boot**, **hardware root of trust**, **firmware/software integrity**, **memory protection**, and **secure update paths** for systems that can’t be physically touched after launch - Build and maintain **threat models** and **attack trees** to drive design decisions - Partner with flight software, avionics, RF, and ground REs to turn requirements into implementations; review designs and code - Develop and run **security verification** at every integration level (unit, subsystem, flatsat, spacecraft, and end-to-end with the ground segment) - Work with internal/external **red teams** and assessment teams to find weaknesses in products and third-party components; drive fixes to closure - Assess suppliers for **supply chain risk** and set security requirements for vendors - Own security content at major milestones: **SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, PSR** - Brief security architectures to Government customers, program leadership, and technical reviewers (adjusting depth per audience) - Partner with **ISSOs/ISSMs** so design decisions support accreditation - Help build reusable **security patterns**, **reference architectures**, and tooling across Anduril’s space programs ## Requirements - Experience designing security architectures for complex, multi-segment systems (spacecraft bus, payload, ground segment, RF/comms links) - Abili
