**Model Operations Lead, AI Gateway** **Available Locations:** Austin, TX | New York City, NY | San Francisco, CA **About AI Gateway** AI inference is becoming core infrastructure. AI Gateway is Cloudflare's bet that this layer belongs at the network edge: close to users, close to compute, and simple enough that a developer can adopt it with one API change. **About the Role** This is a people-management role leading the models team. You'll hire, develop, and lead the team while staying hands-on: writing code, building agent-driven workflows, and managing model operations end-to-end. **Key Responsibilities:** • Build and lead the models team: Hire, coach, and grow engineers who run the catalog and build its intelligence • Run model launches end-to-end: Scope integrations, coordinate testing, confirm pricing/metering/capacity/security, prepare day-zero launches • Keep the catalog true: Ensure published capabilities, limits, versions, and prices match what developers actually get • Build model intelligence: Own evals, capability maps, and per-task rankings behind auto-routing profiles • Treat catalog and intelligence as products: Have a point of view on which models belong and what to ship • Run a lightweight operating cadence: Keep one source of truth for what's in flight and who owns it • Automate relentlessly: Turn repeatable steps into scripts, tools, and agent workflows **Desirable Skills & Experience:** • People Leadership: Experience hiring, managing, and growing engineers • Technical & Shipping: Proven track record of technical launches; hands-on with TypeScript, Python, or Rust • Model Ecosystem Expertise: Deep familiarity with models, labs, and inference providers • Product & SRE Mindset: Data-driven instincts and SRE approach to service health • Agent Workflows: Daily experience building with agents and meticulous attention to detail **Bonus Qualifications:** • Experience at inference provider, model lab, model router, or eval platform • Background in evals, ranking systems, observability, or usage-based billing • Familiarity with Cloudflare Workers, AI Gateway, or similar platforms
