Infrastructure & Security Engineer
Engram · San Francisco
About this role
## About Engram Today’s AI can solve hard problems, but it often doesn’t understand *you*—your work, context, and history. Engram trains models on a customer’s own context (documents, messages, code, and knowledge bases) to create **compact memories (“engram”s)** that improve performance at inference time. Engram is working with leaders in AI (e.g., Microsoft, Notion, Harvey) and recently raised **$98M**. --- ## Role: Infrastructure & Security Engineer Every Engram customer gets models trained on their own context, continuously retrained as that context changes. That means isolation must extend beyond storage—into **training runs** and **the models themselves**. You’ll own and evolve the systems that make this possible, from **ingestion → training → inference**, as Engram adds customers and providers. You’ll work closely with researchers to ensure the **secure path is also the fast one**. --- ## What you’ll do - Build and operate the **cloud infrastructure** for training and serving Engram customer models. - Design and enforce **boundaries** that keep each customer’s data, training runs, and models separate—on both **cloud** and **Engram-managed bare metal** compute. - Partner with researchers and engineers to improve **isolation and security posture**. - Evaluate and secure providers/tools you build on, including **Modal, Baseten, Fireworks**, plus compute on **bare metal** or **Kubernetes**. - Lead **security operations and customer trust**: logging/monitoring, incident response, and support security reviews & compliance. --- ## What you bring - Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in CS/engineering/ML or related field. - **4+ years** experience as a software engineer (excluding internships). - Production infrastructure experience on **AWS**, including **IAM** expertise (cross-account roles, STS, resource/key policies, KMS, multi-account orgs). - **Infrastructure-as-Code** (Terraform or similar) at multi-account scale with secure patterns for networks, IAM, and shared services. - Strong approach to **multi-tenant isolation**. - Proven track record owning complex, production-critical systems end to end. - Comfortable with ambiguity and high ownership in an early-stage company. - Strong production-grade coding skills (**Python, Rust, or similar**). Shipping code and configuration is required. - **No prior ML experience required.** --- ## Bonus points - Early infrastructure/security hire experience at a startup. - ML infrastructure experience (GPU training, model serving). - Experience with enterprise security reviews and compliance (e.g., **SOC 2**). - Open-source contributions, talks, or writing on cloud/infrastructure security. - Experience with **Azure** or **GCP**. --- ## Location & hiring - Based in **San Francisco**. - **In-person** role in the SF office. - Competitive cash compensation and startup equity. - Engram is an equal opportunity employer.
