Senior/Principal Software Engineer
Endurance Energy · Seattle, WA
About this role
**Senior/Principal Software Engineer — Endurance Energy** ## About Endurance Endurance is building the world’s first modular subsea geothermal power plants—turning vast thermal resources under the ocean into gigawatts of baseload power. Backed by Founders Fund, Felicis, First Round Capital, and Point72 Ventures, our team includes veterans from SpaceX, Helion, Blue Origin, and Apple. We’ve completed multiple deep-ocean deployments to subsea volcanoes and are launching a long-term demonstration project this fall. ## What you’ll be doing As a Senior/Principal Software Engineer, you’ll build the software stack, controls, UIs, and simulation infrastructure that enables our engineering team to rapidly build, test, and validate every component and subsystem of a subsea geothermal power plant. This role can span the full software + hardware stack. You’ll work closely with electrical, mechanical, test, and controls engineers to understand what they’re building, define how it should be tested, and create the infrastructure needed to answer critical engineering questions. You may work on: - **Bare-metal and Linux firmware** interfacing with custom PCBs, industrial equipment, and next-gen Endurance power plants - **Real-time data acquisition, visualization, and control systems** - **A unified testing platform** - **High-performance simulation** and **hardware-in-the-loop (HITL)** environments to test real operating conditions and failure modes - **Automation for large-scale production** with the goal of a lights-out factory ## Key responsibilities - Design and build the software ecosystem powering testing across Endurance (from component qualification to integrated system validation) - Architect and implement **HITL** and simulation environments for realistic testing and failure scenarios - Develop software for automated test execution, operator interfaces, data acquisition, visualization, storage, and analysis - Design and integrate electrical/control infrastructure behind new test systems (including Endurance-designed PCBs, DAQs, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, instrumentation, and industrial networks) - Partner with firmware, electrical, mechanical, controls, and systems engineers to rapidly develop new testing capabilities - Build fast “one-off” test systems when needed, then evolve successful concepts into scalable infrastructure - Write production-quality software while establishing architecture and engineering patterns for future systems - Own the technical foundation of Endurance’s testing ecosystem as it scales - Collaborate with the broader software team to support projects across the company - Help shape the test infrastructure organization as it grows (including interviewing and onboarding) ## Required qualifications - **5+ years** of software engineering experience - Strong skills in **Python, Rust, C++, C,** or similar languages - Proven ability to ship production software end-to-end (architecture → deployment → operation) - Experience building software for **hardware systems**, including automated testing and **HITL** (or similar domains) - Technical fluency to credibly collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and systems engineers - Ability to **work onsite in Seattle** and **travel** to deployment sites as required ## Preferred qualifications - Familiarity with **Rust** and **Nix** - Experience with **HITL** or **SITL** environments - Simulation/emulation experience for embedded or controls applications - Experience with indu
