About this role

## Product Engineer — Regulatory Intelligence ### About Blumen Blumen is building the regulatory intelligence layer for American infrastructure. Our platform combines regulatory information with 2,500+ geospatial datasets to help energy companies and environmental consultants understand the permits, constraints, and risks facing a project—**in hours instead of weeks**. We’re a small, fast-moving team tackling a huge market as AI begins to reshape professional services. Joining now means helping define both Blumen and the future of environmental work in infrastructure development. ### What we’re looking for We’re seeking a **Product Engineer** to build **AI and geospatial systems** for energy and infrastructure risk analysis. You’ll have substantial product ownership—working directly with the team and customers to decide what to build and how to improve it after it ships. You: - Understand the problem before choosing tools or proposing solutions - Enjoy diving deep into complex problems and learning new domains (no permitting experience required) - Care about product details that make work useful to customers—even when it’s tedious - Take responsibility for mistakes, accept feedback, and adjust when evidence calls for it - Explain decisions clearly, share context, and flag problems early ### What you will do - Own regulatory and permitting problems alongside product and regulatory teams—question requirements and investigate unresolved questions - Build and orchestrate long-running AI agents combining regulations, geospatial data, and project details into well-supported risk analyses - Benchmark AI agents/workflows against human QA’d reports; turn root causes into engineering tickets and verify improvements - Build internal tools to help the team research, manage, and deliver work more efficiently - Build customer-facing interfaces for project onboarding, interactive maps, and risk analyses - Work across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure; use what you build and fix problems based on real usage ### Our stack - React / NextJS - Python / FastAPI / Temporal - PostgresDB / PostGIS - Kubernetes / Docker - LLMs from several providers - Maplibre - QGIS ### Qualifications - Several years of experience building and shipping software products end-to-end - Strong CS fundamentals; experience across frontend and backend development - GIS systems and geospatial ETLs experience is a major plus - Long-running AI workflows and job orchestration experience is a major plus ### What we offer - Based in our **San Francisco office** on a **hybrid schedule**: **3 days/week in person**, with the rest flexible - Collaboration and onboarding in person - **75%** of employee medical premiums covered - Lunch and dinner stipend - Office gear stipend - Unlimited PTO with manager approval ### Our values 1. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes—serve customers above all else 2. No job is too small—details matter 3. Every problem is an opportunity—clever, difficult, or gutsy solutions widen our moat 4. To go far, go together—trust, respect, win, and lose together 5. Own the problem, not your solution—best idea wins 6. It doesn’t get easier—we just get faster—no finish line; every day compounds success
