Our actions and decision-making are guided by four principles: **Humans First**, **Deepen Understanding**, **Orient for Impact**, and **Ladder Together**. --- ## About the Role We’re looking for a **Senior Mobile Engineer** to help build and evolve the **Android experience** that millions of readers and writers rely on every day. You’ll **own Android features end to end**—from understanding what users need, to building, shipping, and monitoring real-world performance after launch. This is a **product engineering** role. We don’t have a dedicated product team, so you won’t be handed fully-specified tickets. Instead, you’ll help determine **what’s worth building**, partner closely with design and other engineers, and make strong calls when requirements are vague or don’t fully solve the real problem. While Android will be your primary focus, we want someone who can also hold their own on **at least one other platform** (web, iOS, or backend). This helps you see how features fit into the bigger picture and make credible decisions about where logic should live. --- ## What You’ll Do - **Own Android features end to end**: understand the problem, build it, ship it, and ensure it performs in production - **Shape what gets built** (not just how it gets built) - **Push back on scope**, propose simpler solutions, and raise platform constraints early - Write **idiomatic, well-tested Kotlin** and **Jetpack Compose** that fits the team’s architecture - Collaborate with **iOS, web, or backend engineers** to decide where functionality should live - Partner with leadership, design, and engineers in the **US and France** to turn rough ideas into shipped work - Bring **superb judgment** to ambiguous requests: ask good questions, spot edge cases early, and propose reasonable first steps - Maintain forward momentum and help shape product/feature spaces - Help raise the bar for **code quality, testing, and product thinking** - Attend Medium’s **twice-yearly in-person offsites** (hosted in locations around the U.S.) --- ## What You Have - Several years building **production Android apps** - Strong fluency in **Kotlin**, **Jetpack Compose**, **coroutines and Flow**, and modern Android architecture - Expert-level Android engineering, plus ability to hold your own on **at least one other platform** (web, iOS, or backend) - Product-engineering mindset: understand underlying problems and care about real impact after shipping - Experience collaborating with designers and engineers across platforms - Ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to non-engineers - Strong systems instincts, adaptability, and eagerness to learn - Commitment to collaboration and **psychological safety** - Ability to push forward in ambiguity and make great tradeoff decisions --- ## Nice to Haves - Experience using **AI** to improve a team’s leverage, reach, output, and impact - Owned product direction (not just execution) - Personally use **Medium** and are excited to contribute to its mission --- ## Benefits - Fully remote team (teammates across the U.S. & France) - Healthcare covered at **100% for employees** and **80% for dependents** - Generous parental leave - Mental health support via
