Quant Developer, Trading Systems (Rust and C++)
Blockhouse · New York City Area
About this role
## Quant Dev — Trading Systems (Rust & C++) **Blockhouse** is hiring a **Quant Engineering** role focused on taking research ideas into **production trading signals** and running them live with real capital. ### Location - **NYC (in-person or hybrid preferred)** - **Remote within US time zones considered** - **Full-time** ### About Blockhouse Blockhouse (founded in 2022) provides institutional asset managers with trading infrastructure that typically takes years and millions to build. Clients keep custody of their assets while they trade, hedge, and compound portfolios across **crypto and tokenized markets**—from **FX and equities** to **treasuries and compute futures**. They also run live **delta-neutral funding rate** and **market making** strategies with client capital across major venues, and are expanding into frontier markets like **compute hedging**. ### The Role You’ll sit **between research and production**, owning the path from a researcher’s spec to a **live signal**. You’ll work closely with founders and quant researchers, and (even though 2–5 years experience is welcome) you should be ready to step up quickly—setting objectives, writing specs, breaking work into tickets, and guiding engineering execution. ### What You’ll Do - Convert research specs into production signals (e.g., **basis & FX pairs**, **nowcast fits**, **index futures pricing**, **momentum**) - Build and optimize **low-latency** components in **C++ and Rust** (market data publishers, book feeds, market making engine) - Own **exchange connectivity** across crypto and traditional venues (order books, rate-limit pacing, funding/borrow data, order reconciliation) - Debug and harden production systems (memory profiling, reconnect/heartbeat logic, crash investigation) - Co-lead **cloud infrastructure** with an existing senior engineer - Lead the engineering team day-to-day via specs, code review across repos, and onboarding junior engineers ### What We’re Looking For - Prior experience at a **trading firm** or building trading systems at a professional level (side projects alone don’t qualify) - **2–5 years** production experience in **C++ and Rust** (deep in one, fluent in the other) - Proven ability to ship **low-latency / performance-sensitive** trading systems - Strong grasp of **concurrency**, **async**, **networking**, and performance tradeoffs on **Linux** - Comfort with **Python and Go** for tooling, gateways, and research integration - Drive to lead: ready to own objectives, direct others, and make decisions ### Nice to Have - Experience integrating **crypto or equities exchange APIs** - Background in **market making**, **HFT**, or **execution systems** - Familiarity with **margin, funding, and portfolio accounting** across venues - Experience running trading infrastructure in the **cloud** ### Why Blockhouse - Direct ownership of systems that drive **firm PnL** - Close collaboration with founders and the quant team - Meaningful **equity** and performance upside - A live trading environment with a high engineering bar
