We’re looking for people who align with our core values: **Stay Curious**, **Have Empathy**, and **Be Accountable**. --- **Your Role** As a **Senior Software Engineer (Identity)**, you’ll help build and scale the systems and services that form Alpaca’s foundation and empower millions of users who trade billions of dollars in assets. The **Identity team** builds a modern platform for onboarding users, verifying identity, evaluating risk, and managing trading accounts. These capabilities are foundational to the Alpaca system, and we’re expanding globally to support identity verification and a growing set of account types. You’ll design and implement solutions to achieve defined goals, with autonomy and active involvement in shaping those goals. Strong cloud-based architecture, infrastructure, and orchestration knowledge is a plus. --- **Things You Get To Do** - Contribute to a core system millions of end users rely on - Help build a global financial identity verification and risk management service - Implement backend services and design architectures where reliability matters - Take ownership of tasks, proactively identify/address technical challenges, and propose innovative solutions - Contribute to architectural decisions for scalable, reliable systems - Collaborate with other teams to improve system interactions and overall Alpaca systems - Maintain strong software quality and test coverage - Participate in code reviews - Troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs - You may be asked to be on-call for timely engineering projects --- **Who You Are (Must-Haves)** - Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset - Ability to translate business requirements into flexible implementations - Excellent communication and collaboration skills - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Preference for simple and elegant solutions - At least **3 years** of experience working on systems at scale - Proven experience building and maintaining **microservices** - Strong coding skills, preferably **Go** - Ability to write clean, well-tested, maintainable code - Experience with **domain-driven design** and **event-driven design** - Ability to debug issues and (ideally) foresee problems to avoid them - Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (especially **Kubernetes**) - Experience with cloud platforms, preferably **Google Cloud Platform** - Experience with relational databases, preferably **PostgreSQL** --- **Who You Might Be (Nice-to-Haves)** - Experience in the finance industry - Experience with financial identity management (e.g., **KYC**) - Experience with
