Senior Software Engineer - Transport Infrastructure
Cssmerge · San Francisco, CA
About this role
**Who we are** Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress—real-world robots for industries that move civilization forward (starting with food, mining, and transport). We integrate hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy, operate, learn from, and improve systems until they work at scale. **What you’ll do** - Build robust developer experience tooling, APIs, and workflows to help autonomous systems engineers deploy, test, and iterate on vehicle hardware and simulation environments. - Architect and operate high-throughput GPU clusters for deep learning training, fleet simulation, and large-scale data ingestion. - Design resilient, low-latency networking solutions for data communication between autonomous vehicles in the field and distributed cloud data centers. - Develop scalable telemetry, logging, metrics, and tracing infrastructure to monitor fleet and cloud service health, performance, and safety in real time. - Create clean abstractions and proxy interfaces connecting the Transport domain with Atoms’ broader centralized infrastructure stack. **What we’re looking for** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). - 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating high-concurrency backend distributed systems in production (Go, C++, Rust, or Python). - Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization, and orchestration tools like Kubernetes and Docker. - Practical understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, gRPC, WebSockets, MQTT), load balancing, and edge-to-cloud / data center communications. - Experience managing compute orchestration, high-throughput storage pipelines, or GPU workloads for AI/ML training and simulation. - Strong system design skills and an infrastructure generalist mindset (comfortable moving between networking, developer tooling, and compute clusters as priorities evolve). - Hands-on experience with hardware is a plus. **Why join us** Work on ambitious, real-world challenges with meaningful impact—turning unknown truths into progress and building what doesn’t yet exist. Atoms invests in both trust and team strength, creating an environment where you can do your best work and grow. **What else you need to know** - Location: San Francisco office (onsite, five days a week). - Base salary range: **$200,000 - $235,000 per year** (individual compensation varies by experience, skills, and qualifications). - Equity may be available. - Benefits (USA Full-Time Exempt Employees): Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance; FSA/HSA options; 401(k); Equity; Sick Time, Unlimited Flexible Time Off, Paid Holidays; Paid Parental Leave; Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit Plan; Team lunch in SoMa office Tuesdays & Thursdays. - Atoms accepts applications on an ongoing basis. **#LI-Onsite**
