**Citian — AI Engineer (Data Success)** Citian is a fast-growing, venture-backed SaaS technology company based in Washington, DC. Our software solutions revolutionize how transportation and infrastructure systems—roads, rail, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian—operate. **What you’ll do** As an **AI Engineer – Data Success**, you’ll support efforts to incorporate AI into our **data extraction process** using client datasets. You’ll work alongside Engineering, Data, and Research teams to build scalable ingestion processes and improve **data integrity**. **Expected duties** - Evaluate whether AI outputs meet real-world infrastructure standards and partner with technical data teams accordingly. - Help lead efforts to improve model performance, including enabling models with **tool use** and other techniques to get the best out of LLMs. - Support **AI image recognition / computer vision** strategies for infrastructure asset data extraction—assessing approaches, overseeing implementation, and validating outputs against domain benchmarks. - Contribute to fine-tuning strategy for transportation/infrastructure-specific models via domain adaptation, benchmarking, and model evaluation. - Evaluate and recommend third-party AI tools, APIs, and foundation models; balance **build vs. buy** in coordination with Engineering. - Own and manage AI application to **QA/QC** processes—direct strategy, evaluate outputs for domain accuracy, and iterate with the Data team to continuously improve data quality and integrity. **Required skills & experience** - Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field - 3+ years in data-focused roles, including 1+ year of true AI-focused experience (ideally in a product environment) - Understanding of **Python/SQL** and ability to retrieve/store data safely via backend systems - Familiarity with **RESTful APIs** and backend concepts sufficient to prototype, test, and evaluate integrations (hands-on implementation a plus) - Experience with **AWS**, especially for scalable backend AI solutions (e.g., **S3**, **Lambda Functions**) — highly desired - Experience with computer vision or AI image recognition (even prototyping/evaluation) — preferred - Exposure to civil engineering, transportation infrastructure, or geospatial data to critically evaluate AI outputs and communicate with domain experts **Your Citian Advantage** - Competitive salary and benefits (medical, dental, vision) + generous PTO - 401(k) company match + monthly commuter transportation benefit - On-site gym and free snacks - High-growth potential and advancement opportunities in a fast-growing, venture-backed SaaS startup **Learn more** www.citian.co Citian is an organization committed to diversity and inclusion.
