**Clear Street — Senior / Staff Software Engineer (Low Latency)** Clear Street is modernizing the brokerage ecosystem. Founded in 2018, we’re replacing legacy capital markets infrastructure with a cloud-native clearing and custody platform built for today’s complex, global markets. **The Team** The Clear Street Active team’s mission is best execution for every asset class in every market. Active is building a new, state-of-the-art, cloud-based trading platform that gives high-performance traders access to liquidity venues across multiple asset classes, with advanced charting and sophisticated order handling for both active trader and institutional workflows. **The Role** - Build and scale mission-critical order and execution management infrastructure in **Rust**, including order workflows, execution logic, and distributed trading services. - Design systems that balance **low-latency execution**, **fault tolerance**, and **strict correctness guarantees** across distributed trading workflows. - Shape the architecture and engineering direction of a rapidly evolving trading platform in a fast-moving, iterative environment. - Develop efficient, **audit-ready risk controls** and venue-specific trading abstractions with a focus on **correctness and performance**. - Translate evolving regulatory and market structure requirements (CAT, Reg NMS, MiFID) into reliable, testable platform capabilities. **What We Value** - Engineers biased toward action who can make thoughtful tradeoffs with incomplete information. - High ownership and accountability across the full software lifecycle. - Strong communication and collaboration across engineering, trading, and operations. - Willingness to challenge assumptions and continuously improve how we build. **Requirements** - Expertise in **event-driven architectures** and **distributed systems** (Kafka, Aeron, or similar). - Expert at **domain-driven data modeling** and design. **Nice to Haves** - Production **Rust** experience—deep knowledge of order lifecycles and capital-markets workflows (buy-side EMS, sell-side OMS, or exchange matching). - Track record of converting regulatory/compliance requirements into reliable, testable code. - Experience with high-performance messaging protocols (IPC, multicast, Aeron). - Deep knowledge of protocols like **FIX, ITCH, or OUCH**. - Experience with a variety of asset classes (options, futures, crypto). - Familiarity with international markets and global system design. - **Active Team Stack:** Rust, Aeron, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, gRPC, Snowflake. **We Offer** - Join a small, growing team where you can make a real difference. - A new, high-quality codebase with little technical debt and room to build new services and features. - A meritocratic philosophy that champions collaboration. - Competitive compensation, benefits, and perks. **Compensation & Benefits** - Base salary range: **$200,000 – $350,000** (base salary only; excludes bonuses/equity). - Equity, 401k matching, gender neutral parental leave, and full medical/dental/vision insurance. - In-office benefits include lunch stipends, fully stocked kitchens, happy hours, and great location/views.
