You can choose where you do your best work—**from home, an office, or your favorite coffee shop**—while staying connected through regular in-person events. ## Overview **Enterprise Foundations** is responsible for the architectural and integration work that enables Instacart’s Retailer Platform to scale across the world’s largest grocers. This includes: - **Omnichannel integrations** (bringing new product experiences onto unified Instacart platform rails) - **Enterprise extensibility** (sandbox environments, configuration systems, retailer-facing tooling) - **Cross-cutting data isolation** so ML and Data Engineering teams can safely build bespoke models on top of the platform As Instacart’s enterprise retail business expands to hundreds of partner brands and new international markets, this team’s work is foundational to how the platform matures. ## About the Job We’re seeking a **Senior Software Engineer II** to own and ship one of the team’s most complex, multi-quarter workstreams—at the seam of: - **Omnichannel identity** - **International storefront search expansions** - **Partner-owned integrations** that we ultimately operate ourselves You’ll be the **technical DRI** for your area: framing the problem, designing systems, driving rollout, and codifying patterns so the rest of Enterprise Platform can adopt them without your direct involvement. You’ll work closely with Staff engineers and partner across Connected Stores, Professional Services, Commerce, Search, Data Engineering, and ML. ## Responsibilities - Own a **multi-quarter integration workstream end to end** (e.g., unified customer identity, international storefront/search expansion, consolidation of retailer-vertical services onto shared platform rails), from problem framing through design, implementation, rollout, and deprecation of legacy paths. - Drive technical direction: write **ERDs**, propose options, defend trade-offs, and guide partner teams through design reviews and clear written artifacts. - Lead vendor and cross-team integrations where Instacart will eventually own the system—ensure observability, fallback behavior, and cost/latency guardrails; challenge partner designs early. - Build **reusable patterns, frameworks, and templates** with first-class deliverables like “system at a glance” docs and migration runbooks. - Operate hands-on as a senior IC on the highest-leverage technical work; raise the bar on design quality, code quality, observability, and operational rigor. - Mentor junior engineers, delegate well-defined pieces while retaining overall technical ownership, and act as a credible technical peer to senior/staff engineers. ## About You ### Minimum Qualifications - **7+ years** of backend software engineering experience, owning complex, multi-quarter projects end to end as a senior IC. - Proven ability to act as **technical DRI** for cross-team workstreams (proactively framing problems, recommending options, identifying risks early, driving adoption). - Experience designing and shipping
