Manager, Applied AI Cyber Specialists
Anthropic · San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY
About this role
## About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—so AI is safe and beneficial for users and society. ## About the role Anthropic is building a dedicated **Security** team within Applied AI to help security teams use Claude effectively and responsibly. This role will be the **first leader** of that team. You’ll build the team from zero: decide which security customers to serve first, who to hire and in what order, and how the team works with Sales, Applied AI Engineering, and security/legal/trust partners. You’ll also stay hands-on with a small number of strategic security accounts and set the standard for responsible Claude usage (including when human review is required before action). ## What you’ll do - **Hire, onboard, and develop** the first Applied AI Architects on the Security team; coach senior and early-career architects with clear goals. - **Set team priorities**: choose which segments/account types come first, where architect coverage is needed, and how to manage demand vs. headcount. - **Partner with security account executives** on joint account plans, pipeline/forecast reviews, and deal execution where customer security review drives close dates. - **Guide customers** from discovery through evaluations and proofs of concept with written success criteria—then help move from one-time scans to sustained workloads (e.g., app security in the SDLC, continuous automated penetration testing, alert triage/investigation, vulnerability & threat intelligence). - **Coordinate with security partners** (ISVs, systems integrators, managed security providers) while keeping a clear line between what Anthropic delivers vs. partner-delivered work. - **Bring in internal teams** (Applied AI Engineers, security/legal/trust) when customer builds or reviews require additional support. - **Create foundational security assets**: first security playbooks, reference implementations, and evaluation approaches; feed learnings back to Product/Engineering/Research to improve Claude’s usefulness and trustworthiness for defenders. - **Own a small set of strategic accounts** personally, from CISO executive briefings to hands-on workshops with engineers. ## You may be a good fit if you - Have **12+ years** of industry experience, including **4+ years managing** customer-facing technical teams (e.g., solutions architects, sales engineers, or security consultants), with evidence of team growth and performance. - Have **hands-on security depth** in at least one area (application security, detection & response, offensive security, or vulnerability management). **Application security experience is highly preferred.** - Have used **LLMs for real security work** (code review, vulnerability discovery, triage, investigation) and can explain where they helped and where they failed. - Have led **end-to-end enterprise security deals**, including customer security reviews, in close partnership with sales. - Care about making AI **safe and useful for defenders**, and can communicate security risk/value to both CISOs and engineers in terms each group cares about. ## Logistics - **Minimum education:** Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience) - **Required field of study:** Relevant to the role (via coursework, training, or professional experience) - **Minimum years of experience:** Correlates with internal job level requirements - **Location-based hybrid policy:** Expected
