## Coinbase — Software Engineer (Crypto Data Foundations) ### About the role The Blockchain Data Platform team builds an ultra-low-latency indexing platform that ingests, normalizes, and serves data across major blockchains—powering Coinbase teams and external developers via the Coinbase Developer Platform. You’ll join a small, high-impact, AI-native team and help ship the primitives, SDKs, and tooling that make blockchain indexing as easy as using a managed database. Coinbase is **remote-first, but not remote-only**. Expect to meet quarterly for in-person “surges.” ### What you’ll do - Build and operate distributed systems for **real-time blockchain data ingestion, indexing, and query**, owning services end-to-end (design docs, data modeling, code, rollout, observability). - Drive initiatives like **new chain integrations, migrations, and backfills** to improve **latency, reliability, and cost**. - Partner with product and platform teams to define **data contracts** and contribute to **SDKs and primitives** that drive adoption. - Execute architecture and performance improvements across the indexing stack, applying systems design fundamentals (partitioning, consistency tradeoffs, stream processing, storage boundaries). - Support engineering quality through **code reviews**, **testing rigor**, and responsible use of **AI tools** to ship faster and reduce operational burden. ### Required skills & experience - **2+ years** building and operating distributed or data systems in production. - Strong systems design fundamentals: **partitioning**, **consistency/availability tradeoffs**, **stream processing**, and **storage/compute boundaries**. - Backend proficiency in **Go and/or Python**, with familiarity across **Kafka, gRPC, Redis, S3, ClickHouse, MongoDB** (or similar). - Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear designs and shipped solutions with measurable impact. - **Plus:** blockchain/crypto data experience (chain data structures, finality, reorgs, RPC nodes, wallets). - Uses **generative AI responsibly** with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable workflow improvements. ### Pay transparency (annual base salary) - **$152,405 – $179,300 USD** (excluding equity and bonus) ### Notes - **Application limit:** up to **3 applications within a 6-month period**. - Coinbase is an **Equal Opportunity Employer**. - Accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities (email **accommodations[at]coinbase.com**).
