## Zscaler — Principal Software Engineer, Intelligent Data Platform ### Overview Zscaler (NASDAQ: ZS) accelerates digital transformation with the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange platform—an AI-native, SASE-based cloud security platform that securely connects users, devices, and applications worldwide. This is a **hybrid** role (**minimum 3 days/week in Santa Clara, CA**) reporting to the **Director, Software Development Engineering (Cloud Data Platform team)**. ### Role Expectations (What You’ll Do) - Lead the design, architecture, and development of a **multi-tenant, cloud-based data platform**, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver **scalable, secure, high-performance** solutions. - Work closely with **product management and stakeholders** to align long-term technical strategy with business goals; contribute to the roadmap and translate requirements into execution plans. - Evaluate and optimize engineering processes, agile methodologies, and best practices to improve **development efficiency, delivery speed, and code quality**. - Drive engineering and operational excellence to achieve **4-9s availability (24/7)** in a full DevOps model, including reliability, fault tolerance, automation, and rapid customer issue resolution. - Explore emerging and cross-provider cloud technologies; **mentor junior engineers** and promote inclusive collaboration and technical excellence. ### Success Profile (Who You Are) - **Owner mindset**: bias for action, integrity, and the ability to move between strategy and hands-on execution. - **Problem-solver**: energized by complex challenges and delivering solutions with high impact. - **High-trust collaborator**: clear, respectful candor to build strong team trust. - **Urgency with balance**: deliver high-impact results quickly while maintaining speed and quality. - **Resilient and adaptable**: stay composed and focused in high-pressure situations. ### Minimum Qualifications (What We’re Looking For) - Foundational understanding of **AI/ML** and experience leveraging, securing, or positioning AI-driven solutions to optimize outcomes. - **10+ years** software engineering experience building and managing **large-scale cloud data platforms**, with expertise in **distributed systems** and **data architecture**. - Proven experience driving **cross-team technical programs** to delivery (owning design reviews, removing blockers, providing architectural guidance). - Proficiency in **Java** (or alternatives such as **Go, Python,** etc.) with deep expertise in **REST APIs**, **RDBMS**, **document stores**, **Kubernetes**, and **Docker**. - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field (advanced degrees and certifications are a plus). - Experience working with **product management** and cross-team stakeholders to translate requirements into execution plans. ### Preferred Qualifications (What Will Make You Stand Out) - Ability to leverage AI technologies/workflows to drive measurable operational efficiency. - Experience with **monitoring, tracing, and observability** (e.g., **Grafana, Prometheus**). - Proficiency with test frameworks and writing test units. - Demonstrated success mentoring and developing engineering talent. ### Pay Transparency - **Base pay range (US): $185,500 — $265,000** (excludes commission/bonus/equity if applicable and benefits). ### Benefits & Equal Opportunity Zscaler offers comprehensive benefits (including health plans, time off, parental leave options, reti
