**Staff+ Software Engineer, Platform Safety** **About Anthropic** Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. **About the role** Platform Safety builds the infrastructure that enables Anthropic to bring its most capable models to more people, safely and securely. You’ll help design and scale systems that determine who can access advanced models and what capabilities they can access—powered by identity and business verification, trusted access programs, and core services that grant, hold, and enforce model access across products. **What you’ll do** - Design, build, and operate systems that decide who gets access to Anthropic’s most capable models. - Build a platform that lets teams launch and run trusted access programs, moving access rules from code into data for simpler, scalable rollout. - Develop identity and business verification (KYC/KYB) as a reusable service, including: - Integrating verification vendors - Protecting sensitive personal data - Expanding into new regions - Building fair review and appeal paths - Evolve core services behind access decisions (grant/hold services and the identity models they rely on), ensuring high availability and consistency across Anthropic products and cloud platforms. - Shape architecture via written proposals, review key designs, and mentor engineers. - Participate in on-call, lead incident response, and support emerging programs. **You might be a good fit if you:** - Have 8+ years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer (ideally tech lead level or equivalent), and can work across the stack when needed. - Have strong product sense and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners. - Use AI tools as a regular part of designing, building, and reviewing software. - Have designed and operated production distributed systems where correctness, latency, and availability matter. - Take full ownership from design through build, deployment, operations, and iteration. - Navigate ambiguity and set technical direction that others adopt; experience in both 0→1 and mature environments is a plus. - Care about building robust, scalable systems that others love to use. - Care about the societal impacts of your work and Anthropic’s mission. **Strong candidates may also have:** - Identity, access control, or authorization systems at scale. - Fraud/risk/trust & safety or KYC/KYB systems, including working with verification vendors. - Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments, including handling sensitive personal data. - Integration experience with cloud platforms or partner ecosystems (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure). **Compensation** - Annual Salary: **$405,000 – $485,000 USD** **Logistics** - Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/training/experience. - Required field of study: A field relevant to the role. - Location-based hybrid policy: Expect to be in an office at least **25%** of the time (some roles may require more). - Visa sponsorship: **We sponsor visas**, but not for every role/candidate.
