## Principal Software Engineer ### About Harness Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform helping teams ship software faster by improving everything *after* code—testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness uses AI and automation across the full software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls. ### Team: Harness Software Engineering Insights (SEI) SEI is where engineering meets engineering intelligence. You’ll build a technical product that connects to 40+ developer tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub), processes millions of events, and turns raw SDLC data into actionable metrics—so engineers can build better, faster, and smarter. ### What You’ll Do - Design, develop, deploy, and maintain critical software in a fast-paced, quality-conscious Java environment - Write software functional specifications and design documents - Quickly understand complex systems/code and own key parts of the system (including delivered quality) - Work in agile with iterative development and a short customer feedback loop - Build scalable backend solutions - Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues in distributed systems - Perform peer reviews of specifications, design, and code - Partner with Site Reliability Engineers/DevOps and cross-functional teams to deploy and troubleshoot production issues ### About You - 12+ years building highly scalable, distributed applications, products, and backend services using Java - Strong desire to solve complex technical problems for end users - Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) - SQL query tuning and performance optimization (plus) - Search frameworks (Elasticsearch, Solr) (plus) - Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP-hosted applications (plus) - Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD (plus) - Deep understanding of building and deploying resilient distributed software - Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills - Experience working in short release cycles ### Location - Bay Area **or** Remote in the U.S. (periodic travel required) ### Compensation & Benefits (Highlights) - Competitive salary - Comprehensive healthcare benefits - FSA, EAP - Flexible Time Off and Parental Leave - Social/team-building events (quarterly and monthly) - Monthly internet reimbursement - Commuter benefits **Hiring Range:** $150,000 – $226,000 **Pay transparency:** $204,000 – $255,000 USD ### Notes on Recruiting Scams Harness does not ask for sensitive/financial information via chat/text/social media, and email communications come from **@harness.io**.
