We focus on platform-wide architecture, performance optimizations, operational health, and improving the web developer experience for one of the most trafficked sites on the internet. You’ll turn ambiguous platform problems into clear designs and ship high-quality, observable, well-tested solutions that other teams rely on every day. You’ll drive key initiatives including: - Optimizing Shreddit’s global performance - Evolving HTML rendering - Enhancing web infrastructure resiliency and scale - Improving developer experience with AI tooling, automated workflows, and streamlined CI/CD --- ## Who You Are - **Platform-minded engineer:** Standardize cross-org patterns, workflows, and tooling to enable safe, scalable, high-performance delivery. - **Pragmatic builder:** Balance rapid iteration with architectural rigor. - **Effective collaborator:** Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. - **Continuous learner:** Stay current with emerging technologies, standards, and performance optimizations. --- ## What You’ll Do - **Build with impact:** Design and evolve Shreddit web platform architecture, performance, and developer tooling powering reddit.com for hundreds of millions of users. - **Full-lifecycle development:** Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-service initiatives (e.g., asset delivery, HTML processing, observability, reliability). - **Quality & velocity:** Move fast while maintaining quality through thorough code reviews, design doc evaluations, and constructive feedback on product specs and UI mocks. - **Mentorship & engineering standards:** Establish developer workflows, champion best practices, and mentor junior/mid-level engineers. --- ## Technical Qualifications - **Web expertise:** Strong proficiency in modern web stacks including **JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Next.js**; ability to build performant, scalable, safe, production-grade applications. - **Operational health excellence:** Experience tracing, profiling, tuning performance of network calls, rendering, and/or data access paths; monitoring and reporting operational health. - **AI-first workflows expertise:** Experience implementing AI workflows and tooling to support and accelerate high-quality web development, optimization, and debugging. - **API & system design:** Experience designing, building, and maintaining robust APIs using **REST, GraphQL, gRPC, HTTP, or Thrift**. - **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent practical experience. --- ## Benefits (Highlights) - Comprehensive healthcare benefits and income replacement programs - 401(k) with employer match - Global benefit programs (workspace, professional development, caregiving support) - Family planning support - Gender-affirming care - Mental health & coaching benefits - Flexible vacation and paid volunteer time off - Generous paid parental leave --- ## Pay Transparency - **Base salary range:** **$190,800 — $267,100 USD** - Eligible for equity (RSUs); depending on the position, may also be eligible for commi
