About this role
## Senior Backend Engineer — Accounts Receivable ### About Ramp Ramp is building smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how **$200B+** in annualized spend flows in and out of **70,000+** companies—authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books. ### About the Role Getting paid is still one of the most manual parts of running a business. Ramp’s **Accounts Receivable** team is building the system that automates the full receivables lifecycle—from when an invoice is sent to when cash is reconciled in the general ledger. You’ll own core pieces of the system that match messy payment data to the right invoices, keep ledgers correct to the cent, and sync reliably with the accounting systems customers depend on. ### What You’ll Do - Build **payment-matching systems** that automatically apply incoming **ACH, wire, card, and check** payments to the right invoices—even with incomplete or inconsistent payment details. - Design **accurate data models** where every dollar is traceable from **invoice → payment → general ledger**. - Build **two-way integrations** with ERPs like **NetSuite** and **QuickBooks**, staying consistent through retries, partial failures, and edits on either side. - Build **collections workflows** that help businesses get paid faster without harming customer relationships. - Own projects end to end: **problem definition → technical design → launch → monitoring → iteration**. - Raise the engineering bar through **design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship**. ### What You’ll Need - **Product sense**: you care about the customer problem and push back when specs are wrong. - Experience designing and operating **production backend systems** (APIs, data models, async workflows). - Strong **system design judgment** balancing speed, correctness, reliability, and simplicity. - A track record of **independently owning complex projects** and shipping high-quality software. - Strong **communication** and a collaborative approach to technical decisions. ### Nice to Haves - Experience with **invoicing, billing, payments, accounting**, or other financial workflows. - Experience building **integrations** that keep data consistent across systems. - Experience improving **reliability** and **operational visibility** in a growing product. ### Benefits (Full-Time) **Available to all full-time Ramp employees (global):** - Flexible PTO - Centralized home-office equipment ordering - Health and wellness stipend - Budget for intra-office travel - Weekly coffee stipend **United States:** - 100% medical, dental & vision coverage for you (partial for dependents) - One Medical annual membership - 401(k) with employer match - Fertility HRA (up to $10,000/year) - Parental leave: up to 16 weeks (birthing + bonding) or 8 weeks (bonding only) at 100% pay - Pet insurance - In-office perks (lunch, snacks, drinks, etc.) - Relocation expense coverage to NYC or SF (if needed) **Canada:** - Group medical, dental, and vision coverage through Sun Life - Life, AD&D, and disability coverage - Fertility drug coverage (up to $4,000 lifetime) - Group Retirement Plan with employer match (RRSP + DPSP) - Parental leave: up to 16 weeks (birthing + bonding) or 8 weeks (bonding only) at 100% pay (additional time at reduced pay) - Employee Assistance Program and virtual care through Lumino Health **United Kingdom:** - Private medical insurance through Freedom Eli
