The work sits at the intersection of policy, data, and user experience design. ## Technology Delivery at A1M A1M’s Technology Delivery Practice plans, builds, and maintains solutions that may include custom code, low-code, and no-code approaches. Teams are cross-functional and cross-organizational, working with designers and policy subject matter experts using agile, user-centered best practices and high-trust collaboration. ## About this Role As a **Senior Software Engineer**, you will design and implement complex, scalable systems with minimal guidance. You’ll collaborate to break down ambiguous or complex goals into concrete, feasible steps aligned with broader system strategy. While senior engineers may not always have formal management responsibilities, **teaching and coaching** are essential. ## Skills & Responsibilities ### Technical capabilities - Build and maintain complex, scalable systems across application and/or infrastructure layers (e.g., **TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Django**) - Own components/services from development through deployment, monitoring, and production support - Deploy and manage systems in cloud environments (e.g., **AWS**) using **CI/CD**, automated testing, and **infrastructure as code** - Design/build/integrate **APIs** and **data flows** using **PostgreSQL** and cloud data services as needed - Shape system design and contribute to architectural decisions (e.g., decision documents and diagrams) - Improve code quality via automated testing, linting, and development standards - Contribute to robust DevOps practices (deployment, monitoring, incident response) - Mentor engineers, review code/designs, and support team growth and technical direction - Break down ambiguous goals into actionable steps - Share new technologies and skills that support project goals - Participate in discussions with internal and external stakeholders ### Universal categories for all A1M Senior Practitioners **Communication & collaboration** - Build relationships that prevent silos and enable improved delivery - Secure buy-in from relevant parties to ensure work gets done - Proactively recognize risks/conflicts and manage/escalate appropriately - Self-assess and take action to address skill gaps **Cross-domain understanding** - Lead projects requiring collaboration across disciplines/practices - Coach/mentor across practice areas (e.g., designers coaching engineers) - Anticipate and provide information needed by other teams **Government domain acumen** - Identify and respond to government requirements/policy impacts (e.g., accessibility, PRA, FOIA, acquisition regulations, security compliance) - Understand government needs to proactively support partners and users - Represent the company/team with clients, including in challenging situations ## Qualifications - **8 years** of relevant professional experience - Demonstrated ability to write **high-quality, tested, maintainable, reusable** production code - Advanced proficiency in modern languages relevant to the stack (e.g., **TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or Go**) - Expertise building **secur
